Miraculous Mermaids (discontinued, but check the last chapter for extra info!)

Marinette POV:

I wake up to Alya jumping on my bed. "Wake up, wake up!" she yells. It's ten o'clock already! Let's do stuff!"

I kick Alya's leg, making her fall over. In return, she yanks the sheets off me. "Hey!"

"That's what you get for kicking my leg."

"I wouldn't have kicked your leg if you hadn't woken me up." I retort.

"Girl. It's ten o'clock in the morning. Of course, I woke you up! Alya replies.

"Whatever. I'm going back to sleep." I snatch the covers back and close my eyes.

"Uh, nope." Alya grabs the covers again. "I'm gonna annoy you until you wake up."

"Alya," I say with my eyes still closed, "We've been friends for years. It's impossible to annoy me now."

"We'll see." I just know she's smirking and I internally roll my eyes. "Guess what? Last night, before I went to bed, I looked up mermaid legends. The stuff's pretty interesting."

That got me up real quick. "W-what?!"

She smirks. "And you thought I still couldn't annoy you."

I absentmindedly flap my hand in her direction. "Yeah, yeah. You're right. Whatever. What did you find out?"

"What's wrong with you?" Alya asks as she gives me an odd look, "You look like you're going to faint."

"I might just do that if you don't tell me what you found out!" I yell.

Suddenly, Alya's eyes glow. "Wait. Are you worried that I might find out your secret? Are you actually a mermaid?" Her voice rises with every word.

"One, shh. You're so loud sometimes. Two, no. I'm not a mermaid. I'm just really interested and excited to hear what you found. You always find the best stuff." As I speak, I avoid eye contact and fiddle with my bedsheets.

"I feel like you're lying but I'll figure that later. Ok. So I found out that if you kiss a mermaid, you become one yourself! Have you kissed anyone?" 

This is a good fact. It can't reveal my secret. "Nope," I say while shaking my head, "never even had a boyfriend."

"Oh yeah, you told me that. I also found out that mermaids are different from sirens. I've always considered them the same thing." She shrugs.

While this makes me slightly offended, (sirens are selfish pricks. Everyone--and I mean everyone-- hates them) it still doesn't do anything that can reveal what I am. I roll my eyes. "Everyone knows that they're two different things, Als." 

"No need to get all snarky with me," Alya mutters.

"Sorry, sorry. Keep going."

"It's fine. Apparently, mermaids have evolved over time and now when they're on land, they have human legs but they transform back into mermaids once they come in contact with water."

Once again, I avert eye contact. This could actually reveal that I'm a mermaid. If she tries hard enough, she could actually see my tail if I don't take the pills.  "Really? That's so cool!" I plaster on a nervous smile Wait. The pills! As long as I have them, she can't see a tail! Thanks, Maman!  "That's so cool," I repeat, my fake smile turning into a real one. 

"Also, mermaids tend to have oddly colored hair. Like anime characters. Do you dye your hair and you just haven't told me yet?" She leans over and starts inspecting my hair. This is a bs fact but, just to humor her for a bit, I snatch my hair away from her hands and lean back.
