It has been 4 years since you last adopted Kid from the adoption center, and it's been taking a toll on you. You didn't like that he was growing up so fast and it was becoming a reality check that he wasn't going to be a child forever. It hurts knowing that, but it was something you were going to have to deal with as life goes on, especially when he was now age 5, ready to attend his first day of school.

You were walking side by side with Kid to the entrance of the school, and he had refused to hold your hand, making your heart break by how grown he's already being. He didn't want to be seen as someone who still clings to their mother to the other kids. Although, the choices he was making can make one wonder if he even wanted to be seen as a cool kid not wanting their parent's presence when they arrive at school.

Once the two of you arrived at the entrance, you were going to leave him there and watch him enter school, but he had instead stood still, not taking another step. Seeing that he was being hesitant, you tried to make him move by entering the building, and just like a baby duck, he was following you close behind. You walk him to he designated classroom, and the door wasn't quite open yet since it was early and the children were lined up by the door, waiting for their teacher to arrive. There were also some parents there waiting for the teacher with their children, but to you, knowing Kid would most likely shoo you away now, you thought now was a good time to leave.

"Alright Kid, have a good time at school okay?" you say as you pat his head, trying not to cry. "I'll pick you up after school."

Kid looks at you hesitantly, but tries to hold onto the hem of your shirt in secret so the other kids wouldn't see. This was his way of saying to stay with him until the teacher arrived, and you were going to do so, until a few kids who were snickering at other children with their parents happened to see Kid's hand holding onto your shirt.

"Still attached to mommy?" they teased.

"Oi-!" you argued before you were interrupted by a shove from Kid.

"Sh-Shut up! I was just telling her to leave already!" Kid blurted out, clearly embarrassed.

Your eyes widen at his words, but you understood that Kid wanted to look cool and make friends, so you decided to let it go despite the pain you felt. "I'm going, just don't get into too much trouble... okay?"

Kid just grunts at you, and knowing how the predicament is now, you're not able to give him a hug and kiss goodbye... that would just embarrass him even more; you just turned around and left the school grounds, driving off to your job. However, the moment you turned away from Kid, he was looking at you from the corner of his eye, slightly frowning. He didn't want you to go... he felt too scared to be on his own with other children. He didn't even like hanging out with his own cousin, Luffy... how was he suppose to interact with other kids?

"Hah! You're pretty cool!" the kid who teased him earlier laughed. "I thought you were just a mamma's boy like these other kids!"

"Tch. Shut it, no one asked what you thought, punk!" Kid spat, eyes narrowing at the kid and his goons, causing everyone to look. 

"What did you-"

"Oi! Shut up already!" another voice shouted. "You're both annoying...!"

"Hah?!" Kid and the punk said in unison, looking over to who had said that. When they looked in the direction of where the voice came from, they were met with a scowling faced boy. He was tan with messy black hair and dark rings under his eyes.
