Tumultuous--Alex and Piper Fanfiction

Insensible

After hearing the news about Alex, Piper was even more terrified than before. She knew Alex would never go through with the commitment of going to weekly meetings or rehab. The blonde had to figure out a way to convince Alex one way or another.

Piper stepped into Alex's room, to find Alex sleeping in her hospital bed. The worried woman had no idea how to tell Alex what her options were. Piper watched Alex soundly asleep as she listened to the sounds of the heart monitor beating in a pattern. After a few moments, Piper decided to wake up Alex. She knew she should wait and let the brunette rest, but she needed to tell her what was going on.

"Alex...Alex?" Piper shook the exhausted woman.

Alex stirred in the uncomfortable bed as her eyes slowly opened.

"Piper..." Alex let out as she gripped Piper's hand tighter.

"I'm sorry to wake you, I know you need your rest but I have to tell you what the Doctor said to me." Alex looked concerned when Piper announced this.

"You only have two options moving forward. You can either leave in a few days and begin treatment...or you have to go to court and possibly do time, in prison or a psych ward." Piper waited for Alex's response.

"What is their definiton of treatment?" Alex answered after a few moments of silence.

"Rehab, psych evaluation, and weekly counselling meetings." The blonde announced fearfully.

"Are you fucking kidding me? Those are my options? Incarceration or unnecessary rehab?" Alex was pissed.

"It's not unnecessary Alex...obviously you need help." Piper knew Alex would never go through with it.

"Get me the fuck out of here." Alex started detaching herself from her oxygen and wires.

Piper tried to stop her, considering the machines were assisting her breathing and heart.

As Alex rushed up to unplug herself from the machines, she fell to the ground almost immediately.

"Alex?!" Piper rushed over to her.

As Piper was yelling for help, Alex's heart monitor flatlined.

Multiple nurses and doctors rushed into Alex's room, all saying so many different things to which Piper had no idea what anything meant.

"We have a code blue!"

"Page Doctor Collins."

"Get her on the bed."

"Charge to 200!"

"She's going in to VFib!"

A nurse came in to escort Piper out.

"No I'm not leaving. What's happening? Is she going to be okay? She was fine and talking 10 minutes ago!" Piper frantically spewed out words.

"Miss, I'm sorry but the doctors need to do their job, without distractions. You need to wait in the waiting room and when we hear news, you will be informed." The nurse dragged Piper out.

An hour went by, the teary eyed woman sat in the waiting room, shaking her leg and thinking about what could be going on. No nurse or doctor was in sight, no one came to speak to her. She was a nervous wreck. All she wanted to be with Alex, holding her. Going home with her.

A nurse came out of the hospital doors and made eye contact with Piper.

The blonde immediately stood up and asked about Alex.

"We got her heart started...but, she was out for a long time and is currently unconscious. Neuro thinks there could be possible brain damage due to the lack of oxygen. We're going to give it a few more hours, but we aren't sure if she will wake up."

"Can I see her? Please." Piper had no idea how to take in the information.

"Follow me." The nurse allowed Piper to go in the room.

Piper walked in and saw Alex laying there. Lifeless. Her skin was more pale than usual, her lips colourless. A tear fell down Piper's cheek when she saw the love of her life laying there insensible. The worst part for Piper was knowing that Alex was alone and hurting when she did this to herself. Alex was stronger than that, or so Piper assumed. She felt terrible. The blonde was regretting ever leaving her, or reacting the way she did. It all seemed not worth it as she looked at what it had caused. Piper blamed herself. She walked over to Alex's bed and kneeled down to her. Piper grabbed Alex's hand and started crying.

"Alex...I know you can't hear me, but if these are the last words I might be able to say to you, I have to say them. I'm so sorry that it had to come to this. Nothing you did was worth being without you, or sacrificing your life. I thought I couldn't live without you as my girlfriend, but now I have to live the rest of my life without you at all. I love you so much Alex." Piper cried into the bed sheets.

Hours had passed of Piper remaining in the same spot, and Alex in the same position.

The Neurosurgen came in to evaluate Alex's progress.

He checked her pulse, her limbs, and took a flashlight to her forced open eyes. Moments after her evaluation, he turned to Piper and explained everything.

"It's not looking like she's going to wake up anytime soon...Her pulse is steady but there is no sign of movement or awareness. It is your decision on the next steps, there is no record of family or a chosen Power of Attorney, so that leaves you."

As the Doctor talked, Piper's crying eyes looked over at Alex to see her eyes fluttering.

"Alex!" Piper yelled.

The Doctor swung his head around and ran over to the conscious Alex. Piper followed behind him. Her heart was racing a million miles an minute.

"Is she okay? What's happening?" Piper asked many questions as nurses came in to wheel Alex away.

"Where are you taking her?" Piper continued asking questions as she followed beside Alex's bed as it was being moved out.

"Her heart is slowing down, we need to take her into emergency and make sure everything is okay. We will come get you when it's time." The doctor announced.

"Piper..." Alex managed to get out.

"Alex, I'm right here. I'll be right here when you get out." Piper said, slowly losing grip of Alex's hand.

"Piper wait...I love you too." Alex said before their hands slipped from one anothers.

The doors shut in Piper's face as Alex's bed was rolled through the hallway to emergency.

Piper immediately started bawling in relief as the doors shut.

'She heard me. She loves me too.' Piper thought to herself.

Suddenly Piper knew everything was going to be alright.
