I was still recovering from the injury so I slept for a while. It would take a great deal to heal the emotional injury, though. But maybe, some injuries can't be healed. Guilt is tearing me at the seams when I think of her dying in my arms. If I could've healed her in time she would still be here. I could've kissed her more, I could've hugged her more, I could've heard her laugh more. I want more. The selfish beast inside of me wants her more than anyone else. More than Jenny, more than each and every single camper in this bloody camp.
My eyelids droop and send me into slumber and for the first time in a long time, it wasn't a nightmare. I've been running for seven months and I turned thirteen three weeks ago. A monster was chasing after me for the first time. A real monster, I've fought lesser monsters before but this time it was huge. I had a wrench as my weapon and my weak powers.
I was in a Tennessee suburb and was barreling down the streets. I hid behind a corner but then realized I wasn't alone. I turned around to see a girl probably no older than twelve holding a knife to my throat. Her brown hair tossed carelessly into a pony-tail. Her eyes were huge but intense. Vulnerable and innocent but still could whittle you down to literally nothing but a former ghost of yourself. Now they were whittling me down to nothing but then softened. "Who are you?" She said. She was filthy but I guess I was too. "I'm Leon. Who are you?" I replied not breaking hold of our stare. She put down her knife and said,"I'm Janessa, daughter of Poseidon. You?" "Apollo." I said smugly. I figured out my parentage a long time ago but now chose to escape to camp. She smirked and said, "So what are you doing here?" My memory comes back. "A monster was chasing me." Her eyes widen as she asks,"What is it?" I shrug but take a guess and say,"Maybe an empusa."
She actually smiled and drew her weapon. It was much better that my own weapon but hers was an actual dagger, the hilt was thin but then fanned out in little sections like wings when the blade appeared. She smiled and said, "It's called anástasi̱. " She glanced down at my wrench and offered,"Need a weapon?" I smile and say,"That would be great."
She pulled out a twin of her dagger and offered it to me,"It's called Elpízourne." This time I smile and I grab the daggers hilt. We hear the monster shriek in the distance and get up to chase after it.
I wake up feeling somewhat joyful after my dream. My dreams always tell me something but usually they mean something bad is going to happen like my dream with Jenny dying. I learn that you chase after your fear but it's always best for you to face them with a friend.
