Kris froze in shock, then beamed when he realized who was hugging him. He returned Asriel's embrace.
"Asriel decided to surprise you by coming home for Christmas," Toriel smiled warmly.
"What did I miss while I was at university, Kris?" Asriel asked excitedly as he let go.
A lot, Kris thought.
"Kris is becoming a lot more social. He made several new friends, did you not, Kris?" Toriel looked at Kris, who nodded.
"Are you replacing me?" Asriel raised an eyebrow at Kris, who frantically shook his head.
"I'm kidding! Tell me all about it, Kris!"
Kris had to tell Asriel about everything he missed, especially about the whole adventure in the supply closet and his invitation, so he took Asriel's arm and dragged him into their room.
"Woah! Easy on the fur!" Asriel laughed.
Once they had reached the room, Kris closed the door and inhaled. Normally, Kris didn't speak much, but Asriel was the only one who had really heard him talk at his own will.
"Which one do you want to hear first? My most recent adventure or everything that you missed?" Kris asked in a quiet but enthusiastic voice.
"Let's see... Let's save the best for last. Everything I missed."

Kris let Asriel catch up with everything he missed out on, although not much of anything interesting really happened in Hometown. Then, Kris told him about the invitation.
"Also," Kris showed him the envelope. "I've been invited by Noelle to a Christmas party, and you're not invited!"
"What?!" Asriel cried. "Kris, I just came back! Don't you have anything better to do than to make cruel jokes?"
"Heheh, sorry," Kris chuckled.
"I'll find a way to convince her to invite me," Asriel grumbled. "Anyway, what was your 'most recent adventure'?"
Kris was careful to explain everything to the best of his ability. Asriel listened carefully, but giggled every once in a while; he wasn't very convinced that the adventure of Kris, a fellow classmate, and a lookalike of himself was true.
"What a story!" Asriel exclaimed slightly sarcastically after Kris had finished talking about the Dark World. "Where did you get it from?"
"It really happened, though!" Kris responded. "You can ask Susie!"
"Riiiight, but wouldn't she slam me into a wall or something?"
"Don't worry, she changed quite a lot."
"If you say so."
Silence followed after that. Kris began to think that, maybe, that journey was all a dream. Or, Asriel had just grown up too much to believe him. If he had been younger, or didn't have to go to university at all, he surely would've believed Kris.
"So, Kris... you're all grown up, huh?" Asriel tried to break the silence.
"Not really. Aren't you the older brother? You seem all grown up to me," Kris replied.
"Me? Not that much. To be honest, university can get boring and lonely," Asriel sighed.
"Really? Isn't it hard?"
"Kinda. But when there is not much work to do, I start to think about how much better it would be..." Asriel looked down wistfully, "... if you were there with me."
"Well, here I am." Kris smiled and held out his arms.
Asriel suddenly hugged Kris again and ruffled his hair. "Boy am I glad you are!" he laughed. "Say, wanna visit Dad later?"
Kris nodded and giggled. Perhaps Asriel hasn't changed much.
