Ring!
The few students began to walk out of the tiny school, except for one, who dashed out as fast as possible, with some chalk in hand.
Kris was about to make his way home, but then decided to say goodbye to everyone in the classroom first.
First, he went up to Berdly, the person he least liked, since he'd gladly say goodbye to him first.
"Ah, Kris! Ya gonna miss me over break?" the blue bird-like creature with glasses smirked. "Too bad, I won't! I'm just too glad to be the only student with an A+ in class!" he laughed, his face seeming to distort strangely from his wicked smile.
Kris then walked up to a cat named Catti, who was texting silently on her phone and didn't bother to stand up from her seat. He waited patiently for her to say something, then after a long moment of silence, she finally said, "... Bye."
"Yo, Kris! I'm surprised you managed to finish the project!" an orange reptile-like monster kid said gleefully. "Did Susie help you at all? Or did you do it all by yourself? ... Nevermind, haha... Have a good winter break!"
Then, Kris walked up to the nicest girl (and "the second smartest student") in class: Noelle. Before she could go out, Kris stopped her with a tap on her shoulder.
"Oh, hi, Kris! Did you come to give me back my pencil?"
Kris scratched the back of his head nervously.
"Oh, it's OK, Kris! You can keep it as a Christmas gift. From me to you," she smiled.
Kris couldn't help but blush and smile back.
"Well, have a merry Christmas and New Year!" she walked off and waved behind her. Kris returned her wave.
Kris decided not to bother talking to Temmie, Snowy, and Jockington and looked around. The school was almost empty now, but he wanted to see one last person. Unfortunately, this person was nowhere to be seen. Kris shrugged it off and started on his way home.
"Hello, Kris! It's finally winter break, is it not?" Kris's goat mom, Toriel, greeted him as he walked through the door.
He gave her a quick hug, then went to his room. He felt strangely tired and decided to call it a day. He tucked himself in, silently said goodnight to the empty bed across the room, and dozed off.It was dark. Kris felt... terrible. It was hard to describe the many emotions running through his head. It was a mix of fear, panic, anger, rage... and frenzy.
He forced himself out of bed, despite not wanting to, and limped slowly to the middle of the room. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stop himself. Then, with a sickening, swift movement, he grabbed his soul...Kris jolted awake, gasping. After a few seconds of trying to recap what had just happened, he patted his chest nervously. Out came a glowing, red heart, which floated a few inches away from his fingertips. It was comfortably warm, despite still beating very fast. He sighed and tucked his soul away. It was just that dream... again.
He looked out the window. It was a beautiful morning. The birds were singing, and the flowers were blooming, despite it being winter. Hometown hardly received snow or rain.
Kris slowly got up and began walking toward the door, then stopped, merely missing the slice of pie on the ground by a few centimeters. He stood back, then picked up the plate. There was a note attached to it: "Kris, I expect you'll be meeting with friends today, so before you go, have a slice of butterscotch-cinnamon pie to start your day! -Toriel"
So formal, as always. Kris smiled.
He ate in silence, and thought to himself. He didn't usually meet with friends, so why did Toriel think he was going to do just that? Maybe because of last time...
Kris didn't know what else to do the whole day, so he decided to roll with what Toriel said he was going to do.
He wandered around town, occasionally chatting with the townsfolk (although he did none of the talking most of the time). In the middle of doing this, he bumped into a skipping Noelle. Their heads collided, then they fell backward and onto their butts. A bunch of envelopes scattered across the ground.
"Sorry, Kris!" Noelle stuttered as she fumbled with the dropped papers.
Kris laughed inaudibly and rubbed his forehead, which still had the red marks of Noelle's fork-like antlers.
"I'm very sorry! I was very excited, I was just giving out invitations! Oh! Here's one for you." She handed Kris a green and red envelope decorated with tiny lights and Christmas stickers.
"I'm hosting a Christmas party. Everyone in class is invited! No need to bring a present, I got it all covered!"
Kris looked at Noelle in surprise. Noelle smiled back.
"Well, hope to see you there!" She ran off, clutching onto her invitations.
Kris looked down at his own invitation and opened it. The inside was just as decorative as the cover. The party was hosted at the church, around dinnertime on Christmas.
Everyone in class was invited, huh? I wonder if Susie will accept the invitation...
It was getting late and a little chilly, so Kris began to head back home. He stepped through the front door, only to be greeted by a bone-crunching hug.
"Howdy, little bro!"
