The classmates beamed at one another as the skunk wiped his eyes.
"Well? Get lost, before Officer Undyne comes," Susie suddenly sneered at him.
The skunk's smile faded at these words, but returned when Susie changed her smirk into a kinder grin and added, "Your friends are waiting."
He bowed his head quickly as a nod, picked up the presents, and walked off. Nobody knew his name, nor spotted him in Hometown ever again.
"Well, since we know that you're innocent..." Noelle began, "... do you want to come back to the party, Susie?"
Susie looked at Noelle with uncertainty. "Um..."
"plz com 2 partee, snoozie!!!" Temmie squeaked.
"Yeah! How about it, partn'er? Wanna let 'er?" Snowy asked Monster Kid, laughing at his terrible joke.
"Sure! She's not as bad as I thought, haha..." Monster Kid grinned.
Everyone continued to beg for Susie to come (even Berdly, since he saw that Susie was getting increasingly annoyed), and finally, Susie snarled, "Fine!"
They cheered at her response. Susie only scowled back at them, but slowly began to smile. It was pitch black outside by the time the class returned to the church and sat down at the table. For a moment, there was silence as they looked at the Christmas tree, which looked bare and empty without the presents.
"I'm sorry everyone, but you'll have to wait probably until next week to receive your presents," Noelle announced apologetically. "It turns out... someone needed them more than we did."
Everyone nodded understandingly.
"So! We're done with the food, and the presents were given, we might as well—"
"ho ho ho," a low, chill voice called.
Everyone turned to the door, and standing there was a familiar-looking white-bearded man with red, cozy clothing and a matching red hat. He had a large, brown sack, and he looked strangely skeletal.
"sAnTa?!?!?1!1?1!" Temmie squealed in surprise.
Just as she said that, the whole town came crowding into the room, smiling and chattering. The kids watched them swarm in, shocked.
"I almost forgot..." Noelle murmured almost inaudibly.
"Heya, Kris!" Asriel parted from the crowd and squeezed Kris into a big bear hug. Kris blushed in embarrassment as his classmates watched him.
"I convinced Noelle to invite me! In fact, she let everyone in town come if they wanted! Thanks, Noelle!"
He glanced at Noelle for a second, grinning. Noelle forced a smile back.
"Also..." Asriel began, beaming at someone in the distance, who yelled, "Surprise!"
"Dad!" Noelle ran over to her father Rudolph, who rolled over to her on his wheelchair, and embraced him.
"How did you get here?" Noelle asked, her eyes shining with happy tears.
"Why, I fought the doctors on my way here!" he laughed. "Kidding, of course."
"We also thought that we should give you all presents and more food, which was why we all came so late." Kris turned around to see that Toriel had approached the table.
"Really?" Noelle gasped.
"So I baked several pies! And Santa... decided to give out gifts in person this year. So... we invited him too," Toriel giggled, looking admirably at the short Santa, who settled down on a chair.
"now who wants presents?" he grinned.
"mEEee!!!1!1!1" Temmie leapt up and onto Santa's lap. "is tem'z presnt tem'z eg hach???"
"in fact, it is," Santa took out a present from his sack and handed it to Temmie, who eagerly ripped it open. Inside was a stuffed baby bird toy that looked like a parrot.
"uwaaah!!! thankz so muc, sAnsTa!!!" Temmie cried and snuggled the toy.
Santa sweatdropped; whether she knew it or not, Temmie nearly gave out his secret identity.
"SANTA!!!" Papyrus's loud voice rang through the auditorium. He jumped out of nowhere to sit on Santa's lap, and Santa let out a tiny "oof."
"oh, hey br-papyrus," Santa grinned nervously. "uh, what would you like for christmas? ya never wrote, heh."
"MEETING YOU IS ALL I WANT," Papyrus smiled widely.
After Papyrus's long moment with Santa, the rest of the kids scrambled up to Santa to get their presents, and he gave them almost exactly what they wanted. He even gave Berdly a gift just for being an A student. Finally, it was Kris's turn.
"have you been a good boy this year?" Santa grinned. Kris nodded excitedly.
"alright, now a friend of mine suggested that this should be your present, since i couldn't think of much to give ya." He handed Kris a slip of paper, which had a phone number written on it.
"now, this is the real deal," Santa added.
Kris looked up at him in surprise. For some awkward reason, Kris felt like he was meeting an old friend when he first met Sans—similarly with Papyrus. He had gotten pranked last time he got his "number." But this time...
"Thank you, Santa," Kris beamed.
It was Noelle's turn to get a present.
"now i know you're a very good girl, noelle, so i gave you the best present." Santa handed her a gigantic package.
Noelle looked flustered as she opened her present. In it was a bunch of Christmas-themed arts and crafts supplies: the kind of scissors that cut out a wavy pattern, some brightly colored ribbons, big pop-out stickers, and a lot of other things.
Noelle looked up at Santa with slightly watery eyes. "It's the best!" she cheered, hugging Santa and taking him by surprise.
"welp, you deserve it, kiddo. ho ho ho," he chuckled. "who's next?"
Everyone had already gone, except Susie. They had instinctively looked at her, expecting Santa to lecture to her about being nice and give her coal. Instead, Noelle stood up, ran to the Christmas tree to grab something, and came back.
"Wait, I got her something!" She stopped in front of Susie, with that "something" behind her back. Susie looked down at her with an unreadable expression.
"It was the only gift that wasn't... stolen." Noelle whispered to Susie, then revealed her present; she held out a decorated basket filled with chalk.
"Wait, Susie was the one who stole the chalk!" Berdly wanted to squawk, but something told him that he shouldn't ruin the moment.
"I know you think everyone thinks you're a bully and all that stuff, but I don't think so, especially after what you've done tonight. I hope we can all be friends," Noelle smiled.
Susie remained speechless, which worried Noelle a little. Everyone watched tensely.
Finally, she took the basket slowly, and murmured, "Thanks."
Santa clapped slowly, then Kris joined in, then Asriel; soon, the church erupted in applause.
"If I had hands, I would clap, too!" Jockington grinned cooly.
"What good friends they are," Toriel beamed.
"That's my girl! She got that kindness from me!" Rudolph shouted gladly.
Several more chairs and tables were brought in for everyone else. Then, they all had a big feast with pies and leftover spaghetti.
"Now who wants to sing some Christmas carols?" Asgore called after everyone had stuffed themselves. They cheered in response.(You may start the video at this time if you want audio. :3)
Asgore began to sing "The First Noel" in a low, smooth voice. When Noelle realized the song he was singing, she laughed and sang along. Kris sang quietly along, then Toriel, then Temmie, who mixed up the lyrics terribly and sang off tune. Soon, the church boomed with the sound of many different voices singing one song in unison.
As he sang, Kris put an arm around Asriel, who did the same. However, Susie leaned against the wall with her arms crossed and with her basket of chalk beside her, silent.
Seeing this, Asriel unlinked himself with Kris and looked. Then, an idea sparked within him, and he walked up to Susie.
"Howdy, Susie! Say, do you know how to play an instrument?"
Susie, out of sheer respect, said, "Um... I can play a little guitar."
"Alright then, because I thought that if you won't sing..." Asriel suddenly handed Susie an acoustic guitar, "... you should play along!"
Susie backed off slightly. "Whoa whoa whoa, I don't think—"
"C'mon, we need a little music with the singing!"
"But I haven't been—"
"Just once, please?" Asriel begged. "Plus, it's not like you have anything else better to do."
Susie hesitated. The singing continued in the distance, which the two ignored. She wanted to tell Asriel that she mainly played rock but hadn't been practicing, but she knew she would get interrupted again, so she didn't bother.
"... Whatever," she said at last, taking the guitar.
"Thank you," Asriel sighed in relief.
Susie anxiously put the strap around her neck, and placed her giant fingers above the thin strings. She took a breath, and strummed a quiet C major chord.
She looked up when she noticed that the room hushed. Everyone looked at her in slight surprise. I must've strummed louder than I wanted to, Susie grumbled in her head.
Asriel grinned, walked back to Kris, and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"From the chorus, everyone?"
Everyone nodded, and Asgore once again led them in song. "Noel, Noel..."
Susie plucked along, and the room was filled with singing again.
Then and there, a bright sense of joy filled the church. For a moment, everyone's problems melted away like snow on a sunny day. Replacing it was a flurry of happiness and jubilation that overwhelmed everyone's hearts. Even Susie felt it. Maybe this is how the holiday spirit feels like... Susie thought with a small smile.
