After the Christmas carolling, Toriel hosted some games for the younger children (and, of course, the others were welcome to join, too). Kris and Asriel jumped right into the game "Bring Me," retrieving all sorts of strange things like a pair of smelly socks, the longest belt, a guitar (which Susie gladly gave to Asriel), and Noelle herself (who Kris took by the hand and led to Toriel). After a while of games, Noelle walked up to the middle of the room again, this time with a mic so that everyone could hear.
"I know you're all having a good time, but it's getting late," Noelle announced. Everyone moaned "awww" in unison.
"Um, don't worry, there'll be a New Year party!" Noelle reassured them. Now, her audience cheered.
"You know, the holidays give good opportunities to know each other better. It looks like we've met some old friends, and made new ones. But the best thing of all is giving thanks and love. Thank you so much for coming to Hometown's Christmas party!"
Loud applause filled the room as she bowed and walked back to her father.
"see ya next year, kiddos. ho ho ho."
Santa walked out of the church, the children waving frantically after him.
Everyone began to say their farewells and give out their hugs and handshakes. Asgore, from a distance, gave quick glances at Toriel's direction, unsure about starting a conversation with her or not. To his surprise, Toriel went up to him.
"You have a nice voice, Asgore," Toriel complimented him simply.
"Oh? Um, thank you, Tori...el," Asgore stuttered, his face flushing.
Toriel nodded. "Merry Christmas," she said as she let out a small smile.
Asgore returned it, just when Toriel walked away. With a face of pure glee, he went outside and back home.
Ms. Alphys looked around at all the smiling faces and bright decorations. "Noelle did r-really great on this!" she said to herself in amazement.
"Yeah, she did," someone said behind her.
She turned around to see a tall fish lady, Officer Undyne.
"O-Oh, hello! Haven't s-seen you around before," Alphys stuttered.
"Same here. I'm Officer Undyne." She held out a hand.
"A-Alphys," she responded, shaking it. "I-I teach at the school."
"Oh, the kid Kris told me about you!" Undyne laughed.
"H-He did?"
"Yeah. It's like he thinks we have some sort of connection! Heh."
"K-Kids can be strange, y-ya know?"
"Well, see you around," Undyne grinned as she walked away.
"G-Goodbye!"
One by one, a person left the church. Soon, a few people were left, including Kris, Asriel, and Susie, who were busy chatting.
"So! Susie, was Kris's story about the supply closet actually being the entrance to the 'Dark World' true?" Asriel looked at Susie, who looked up in shock.
"What? I never heard of that tall tale before," she quickly said and looked down, glaring at Kris from under her bangs.
Kris felt hurt from Susie's reply; seeing this, Asriel put a paw on his shoulder. "It's OK, Kris. Maybe someday she'll open up and you'll actually get to go out with her."
Kris shot a glare from under his own hair. Asriel only laughed.
"Hey Kris, you seem a lot more happy this time of the year," he commented. "I mean, you talked—not just to me—and laughed more often."
What Asriel was really looking at was Kris's deep brown eyes, which were usually hidden under the shade of his hair. They were more visible even in the dark church (the lights were already turned off), and they twinkled with life and excitement.
"Yeah, you don't really look like a corpse anymore, Kris," Susie grinned.
"Kris, Asriel, it's time to go," Toriel called.
"Aww, mom!" Asriel and Kris groaned like little kids. Susie cringed.
"It's getting late," Toriel told them. "Susie, you should probably be on your way home too, before it gets colder than it already is."
"Alright. 'Night." Susie stuffed her hands into her pockets, gave Kris a tiny smile, and began to walk off.
"Wait," Kris called, and Susie turned around.
"Are you coming to the New Year party?" Kris asked.
After a moment of silence, Susie smirked and said, "Of course."
As Susie went off, Kris and Asriel waved and joined their mom. Before they left, however, Kris spotted Noelle packing up her things and ran up to her.
"Noelle!"
She looked up in surprise; she wasn't very used to Kris talking this loud.
"I just wanted to say thank you," Kris smiled. "It was a great party."
"Oh, thank you, Kris! It turned out way better than I expected," Noelle admitted happily.
"Yeah, even Susie enjoyed it!"
"You think so?" Noelle beamed.
"Yeah," Kris replied. "I better get going, see ya."
"Bye, Kris! Merry Christmas!"
Kris rejoined with Asriel and Toriel, then they started on their way home.
