"Ralsei!" Susie and Kris exclaimed, running to the fluffy prince.
"How did you know we were coming?" Susie asked.
"I didn't know for sure, but I waited right here just in case," Ralsei responded. "And you did come! Thank you!"
"No prob," Susie grinned. "Say... where's Lancer?"
"Did somebody call me?" a bubbly voice called from a nearby closet.
"There you are!" Susie let out a bark-like laugh as she ran to a short, chubby "spade" (there is no other way to describe him), who leapt into her arms. She ruffled his blue pointed hoodie, making him giggle in an unusually high-pitched voice.
"I-I didn't see you coming," Ralsei told Lancer in a slightly surprised but nonetheless pleased way.
"Since I'm King now, I get to go wherever I want, whenever I want!" Lancer let out a happy raspberry.
"Good for you...!" Susie replied as she put Lancer down. She tried to sound happy for him, but she couldn't help but be reminded of the previous King, who was Lancer's dad and is now behind bars because of his tyranny and hatred towards the Lighteners.
"Anyways, I got a surprise for you two..." Ralsei rummaged through his green cloak, then took out a cake, which was decorated brilliantly with frosting and sprinkles. "Happy holidays!"
Susie couldn't control herself; a second after her eyes met the cake, she grabbed it and shoved it down her mouth in one bite. Ralsei leapt back, his glasses crooked, Kris didn't seem very surprised, and Lancer watched with a wide, toothy grin, as if what Susie was doing was heroic rather than startling.
"Um..." Ralsei murmured as he got a hold of himself, "I-It's OK, guys, I got another one just in case... this happened."
"May I have it?" Susie asked through a mouthful of cake.
    "No!"
"Chill, Toothpaste Boy. I'm full anyway," Susie laughed.
"Hey! That's my line!" Lancer yelled, though he was still grinning widely.
Ralsei took out another cake, careful to keep it out of Susie's reach, and placed it down in front of Kris. He also took out a napkin and a plastic knife and fork for Kris to eat with.
Kris wasn't very hungry, so he took the plastic knife, split the cake in half, and moved the plate closer to Ralsei.
"Huh? You want to share, Kris?" Ralsei asked, his eyes wide with surprise. "How nice of you!"
"What about me?" Lancer asked, still blowing a raspberry, except his face lost its usual smile.
"Hey," Susie said as she swallowed what remained of her cake, "I brought some chalk from a Christmas party. Want some?"
"What's chalk?" Lancer asked, his grin returning.
"It's a treat that's crunchy and leaves white dust inside your mouth," Susie said. "It's really good."
"It is?" Lancer's grin grew wider. Kris gave a disapproving glance at the two of them, but he knew it was no use.
"Yeah. Here." Susie rummaged through her jacket pocket, took out a piece of chalk, and handed it to Lancer. "Eat up."
After Ralsei took out a knife and fork of his own, he and Kris ate silently together, while Susie and Lancer enjoyed their own little "treat."
"This chalk..." Lancer began as he tried his first bite of the non-edible item, "... is EXACTLY how you described it, Susie!"
    "Tastes great, huh?" Susie smirked.
"Yeah!" Lancer smiled back, his raspberry covered in white powder, "It's just hard to chew."
"So what did you guys do for the holidays?" Ralsei asked.
"Christmas party, presents, getting blamed for them going missing, threatening the thief who really stole them... the usual, y'know?" Susie shrugged.
Ralsei stared at Susie in disbelief, while Lancer beamed at her boldness.
"Wait a second... how do you guys know about Christmas? Isn't it only... a Lightner's holiday?" Susie stared back at Ralsei.
"Well, we celebrate it too!" Lancer exclaimed.
"Christmas is everywhere, isn't it?" Ralsei smiled. "Anyway... you saw a thief?"
"Heh, yeah. It's a looong story."
Susie and Kris took turns explaining to Ralsei and Lancer: Susie was suspected of stealing presents, then she found and chased the thief, who soon explained his actions; then everyone allowed him to keep the presents and he went on his way.
"Oh... that's fascinating!" Ralsei exclaimed after their tale.
"Right? But, it's strange... He probably deserved to be beaten up by me, but instead he ended up getting away with taking the presents," Susie responded. "And we let him!"
"What?! Susie, that's not really like you! You're usually more... evil!" Lancer stuck out his tongue in disappointment. Susie looked twice as upset.
"You still did the right thing, though! And that's part of what Christmas is all about," Ralsei smiled warmly. "Giving love to someone who doesn't deserve it."
Slightly cheered up, Susie let out a little laugh as she remembered how she got a present this Christmas despite being the one student everyone wants expelled.
"Yeah, I get it now. But that was just overly mushy," she replied with a smirk.
    "Yeah!" Lancer chimed in.
"B-But it's true! Right, Kris?" Ralsei attempted to defend himself. To his relief, Kris nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, you're right, I guess," Susie admitted.
"If Christmas is about giving love to someone who doesn't deserve it," Lancer asked with slight uncertainty, "then does that mean I can still hang with my dad?"
"Of course!" Ralsei beamed. "It might actually help him change for the better!"
"Wow!" Lancer stuck out his tongue joyfully. "Lightners have good advice about dealing with mean dads!"
Once they had finished the cake and chalk, Kris stifled a yawn.
"Oh, it must be late. You should probably go home now," Ralsei smiled sadly.
"Yeah," Susie got up, then poked Kris awake so that he could get up too.
"Already?" The tip of Lancer's hood flopped down as he frowned.
"Hey, we'll visit often!" Susie sweatdropped as she reassured him.
"That's good! There's always room in town for a couple of clowns, ya know!" Lancer grinned.
Susie and Kris then began toward the door.
"Good night, feel free to come back anytime!" Ralsei beamed.
    "We will!" Susie called.
"Merry Christmas!" Lancer yelled after them. "Ho ho ho!"
