Chapter 6: careful

“Sauli, it’s time to get up!” He heard his mom yell from the living room.

Sauli crawled out of bed, showered, dressed and headed towards his living room to relax until it was time to leave for school. He fidgeted in his chair at the thought of the text message he received last night. Who was it from and what exactly did they know? An eerie feeling crept over him as he began to wonder if someone had found out about him and Mr. Lambert. Glancing at the clock, he headed towards the door, it was time for school.

Sauli walked into his homeroom and took his usual seat in the back. He was one of only a few already in the class. His eyes spotted Mr. Lambert setting at his desk in the front and his heart began to race. It was really awkward thinking about what had happened between them Saturday night while being at school but he couldn’t help it. Something that amazing was very hard to not think about. It was getting closer to time for class to start and more students were entering the class.

Bryce was the last student to enter the class. He sat down in his seat just as the bell rang. “Did you get my text?” he snickered.

Sauli’s body froze up as he realized the meaning of Bryce’s words. The text was from him. A cold shiver worked its way down Sauli’s spine. What did Bryce know?

“Good morning.” Mr. Lambert said to the class. “How did everyone’s weekend go?” There was a sparkle in his eye as he looked at Sauli.

The class mumbled a mixture of “good” or “fine” but Sauli didn’t say a word. He knew his weekend was better than anyone’s in the class.

“There’s nothing planned for homeroom today so just read a book or work on some homework.” Mr. Lambert said and walked back to his desk.

“There’s something going on between you and Mr. Lambert. I don’t know what it is but I’ll find out. I’ve seen you meet him at the park and get into his car. What kind of freak hangs out with a teacher, anyways?” Bryce spat.

“You can’t prove anything. Maybe it wasn’t me that you saw. There are other short blonde guys around.” Sauli replied.

“Whatever, then what did you do this weekend?” Bryce asked back.

“That’s none of your business.” Sauli answered.

“Boys, no talking” Mr. Lambert said.

First block and second block went by horribly slow for Sauli. He was so nervous and scared. By the time it was lunch time he was positive that he needed to talk to Mr. Lambert.

“Sauli, are you eating lunch with me again today?” Katri asked in the hallway.

“Not today.” Sauli answered and looked away.

          “Why not?” She asked back.

“I need some help with my chemistry homework and Mr. Lambert said he could help me with it during lunch.” Sauli lied.

“Oh… well, ok.” She said and walked away.

Sauli made his way to Mr. Lambert’s classroom and sat down.

“Is something wrong?” The teacher asked.

          “Bryce knows.” Sauli said coldly.
