Chapter 9: surprise

Adam pulled up into the parking lot of Platinum Records and just sat there in his car silently. His nervousness was beginning to creep over him. Today could change his life forever. If everything goes his way, the record executives will love him and sign him right on the spot. Adam glanced down at his iPhone and saw that it was now 4:15pm. He got out of his car and walked into the double doors of the huge, white building.

The Platinum Recording studio headquarters building seemed a little intimidating at first. Everything inside was fancy and completely spotless. There were photographs of other singers on the walls who had a contract there. Adam got more nervous with every step he took. When he got inside the elevator to head up to the 17th floor, something changed. He wasn’t nervous anymore because he knew the stage was where he was most comfortable at. Taking a seat in a black leather chair in the 17th floor’s lobby, he watched the clock. It was only ten more minutes until 4:30.

“Adam Lambert?” A tall and skinny blonde woman said, opening up a door.

Adam stood up and walked towards her. “I’m here.”

“It’s Nice to meet you, Mr. Lambert. I’m Krista, the one who spoke to you on the phone yesterday. Follow me, please.” She said holding out her hand.

“It’s nice to meet you, too.” Adam replied and shook hands with her. He noticed the bright red nail polish she had on as he followed behind her down some hallways.

Krista opened a door and held it open for Adam. “This is Michael, Chase, and Victoria.”

“It’s nice to meet you.” Adam said to all of them. He shook hands with all three of them.

“This is Adam Lambert.” Krista introduced him. “He is a high school choir teacher here in L.A and I’ve heard he has an outstanding voice.”

“Well, he’s very gorgeous… I hope his voice is as good as his looks.” Victoria said.

“Aw, thank you doll. You’re gorgeous, too.” Adam said. He really did think she was pretty. She had long, burgundy hair down the middle of her back and mesmerizing green eyes that stood out on her fair skin.

“What are you going to be singing for us today?” Michael asked. He was an older guy with grey hair and seemed to be the most serious of the three.

“What are my choices?” Adam asked back.

Chase answered him. “You can sing whatever you’d like but it would be a wise choice to pick a song that shows off your raw talent and vocal range.” He was quite attractive, having deep, brown eyes and hair, and a great smile.

          “Alright” Adam answered.

Krista shut the door behind them and took a seat. The room was medium sized and had a sound stage in the back.

“Go over there to the sound stage and microphone. We’ll have you sing without any music first.” Michael said as him and the other two executives turned their chairs around.

Adam walked over to the microphone and stood there quietly for a short moment.

“Have you decided your song of choice?” Chase asked.

“Yes… here it goes.” Adam replied. He choose the song ‘a change is gonna come’ by Sam Cook. It would show off his vocal skills and it meant a lot to him on a personal level.
