Chapter 11: bad times

Sauli was really worried about what Bryce had just said on the phone. He was more worried about Adam than himself. What if Bryce beat Adam like he did Katri and Sauli wasn’t there to get the cops called? There was another problem, also. Bryce was seriously psychotic. He would have killed Katri if Sauli hadn’t seen him beating her. There had to be a way to prove that Bryce was psychotic so he could get locked up in a psycho ward or, even better, jail. Sauli urged the thoughts out of his head because Bryce was probably just trying to scare him.

Sauli got into his car and started it up. He decided to go to the hospital first before heading home. He wanted to go see Katri. Hopefully, she was ok and Bryce hadn’t caused her any permanent damage. Sauli stopped at the store to pick up some flowers and a ‘get better soon’ balloon for Katri.

“Which room is Katri in, the girl who got beaten with a golf club?” Sauli asked the hospital receptionist.

“Room 304” The old woman receptionist replied.

          “Thank you.”

Sauli Found his way to Katri’s hospital room and knocked lightly on the door.
          “Come in.” Katri murmured.

Sauli walked inside the room and could believe what he saw. Katri’s arms and legs and face were all covered in black and blue bruises. She had a lot of bandages covering different areas.

“I got you these.” Sauli said as he handed the balloon and flowers to Katri.

She tried reaching her arms out to take them but swiveled back in pain. “Thank you. I love them.”

“It’s no problem. I’ll put them on your little table for you.” Sauli said.

“Is he in jail?” Katri asked with a grimace on her bruised face.

Sauli looked out the window. “Bryce? He was in jail…”

          “Was?” Katri asked.

“His mother bailed him out.” Sauli replied.

“Is this true or is it just a rumor? Maybe he is still in jail.”

          “No, it’s true…”

“How do you know?” Katri asked.

“He called me.” Sauli said. “It was just as I was walking to my car after school got over.”

          “What’d he say?”

Sauli didn’t want to tell Katri the par about Bryce meaning to kill her but he explained everything else about him wanting to come after him and Adam.

“Oh, lord, this is horrible. Don’t let him get you, Sauli.” Katri said. She looked worried.

“Do you have any broken bones?” Sauli asked.

“Nope, I just have cuts, bruises, scrapes, and internal bleeding.” She replied.

‘Gosh, I really hate Bryce.” Sauli said.

“Me too, you don’t even understand how much I hate him.”

The door opened and a doctor walked inside. “Time to change your bandages.” He said.
