(A/N: A Happy Birthday to my love, the God of Mischief, Loki Odinson! UWU)

Sooooo this afternoon is SO boring! Not a mission in sight! No aliens invading the planet, no crazy hot Lokis trying to take over the planet. What a day...

Oh, I know just the thing to un-bore me! Thor upset Loki today! I should go see how he's holding up... He didn't really say anything when he left for his room...

Getting up out of his chair, Daniel was quick to happily skip to the elevator. As soon as he reached Loki's floor, he hopped out, only to freeze on the spot. Loki was in front of Thor's door shouting angrily, "Damn it! I told you, I don't want your stupid letters from Asgard! I could care less what they have to say! Leave me be, you oaf!" In his hands, he took the crumpled a piece of paper- or parchment, as it's more likely made from Asgard- and threw it to the closed door of Thor's room before storming away, not even noticing Daniel in his fit.

Daniel silently tiptoed over to Thor's door and picked up the parchment that was left crumpled on the floor. He uncrumpled it carefully and his eyes widened as he read what was on it. It was a letter from his mother. Daniel held his breath as he read it. She was only wishing him a happy birthday, though she knew how hard it was for Loki to appreciate his birthday. And Loki really believed this was from his father? Perhaps he didn't even look at it. But from what Daniel could tell, the letter was at least a week or so old.

The door suddenly opened in front of Daniel and he looked up with wide eyes as Thor had caught him red handed. But Thor gave a small smile, knowing exactly that Daniel had read it. He said quietly, "I hesitated in giving him this letter, not that anything could prevent Loki from lashing out at this. He truly hates his birthday and I have never understood why. He refuses to celebrate another year of living."

Daniel looked down at the letter before looking back up at Thor. "Is it because of his adoption?"

"I do not know." Thor sighed at his lack of understanding. "Perhaps he would speak with you. He always refuses to speak with me." With a smile, Thor added, "He does confide in you a lot, after all."

Daniel nodded in agreement. "Right! I'll do my best. I guess he could really use a friend right now."

With a reassuring look from Thor, Daniel was quick in leaving and traveling down the hall to Loki's room where he knocked and waited patiently. There was no answer and Daniel was concerned that Loki really was going to pretend like he wasn't in his room. He knocked once more, but upon getting no answer, Daniel slipped the slightly crumpled letter under the door.
"Thor, you imbecile-" After a minute, the door swung open, revealing an infuriated Loki who actually froze at seeing Daniel and dropped his emotions. "Daniel..."

With an offered smile, Daniel said, "Look, I know you hate your birthday, but this letter was from your mother and I think you should read it." Loki turned away swiftly and strode through his room, stopping at the open window that gave way to a very high drop from that floor of the building. "Loki?" Daniel followed behind him, not forgetting to close the door on his way in. "Hey, talk to me."

"I hate myself." Daniel fell into a tense silence at Loki's sudden words. But the God still continued speaking, "I've always hated myself and everything I've done. Why celebrate the life of someone like me? I'm not Odin's Son. I'm not Thor's brother. I'm... this monster. I'm a stolen relic, a pathetic tool to be used for someone else's gain."

Daniel looked down for a moment before collecting his thoughts and commenting, "If it's all the same to you... I don't think the reason we celebrate our life is for the past we had and the family we may or may not have. A birthday is to show you all the years you managed to live through. You might not have come out all in one piece, but it's to at least show you that you made it."

"I should be dead." Loki's hand clenched around the letter he still held as he leaned against the open window seal with his eyes closed. "I should have died long ago when the Bifrost was broken and I fell- no. Before that. Long before that... I should have died on that icy rock. I shouldn't have even made it as far as Asgard."

Daniel gripped his arm, not liking the thoughts that Loki was dwelling in. "Lo... You might think that, but imagine how many people are thankful that you're alive. Your family loves you, even if you are adopted. Thor loves you, especially. You'll always be his little brother. We're happy to celebrate this birthday and so many more with you. You're our friend and you're our family. Who you are and what you might have done doesn't matter to us. Loki," He waited until Loki opened his eyes and faced him. Daniel could practically see the depression that Loki was falling into. A birthday and Christmas in the same month was definitely taking its toll. "You're the strongest God I know and I think you need to celebrate that."

Loki glanced at the letter in his hands, obviously drawling over Daniel's words. It took a while, but Loki finally opened the letter and began to read it. His eyes watered, but not once did he shed a tear. He refused to do that much. Only his mother could be so thoughtful. Daniel was kind of like her... He was sure that his mother would certainly like Daniel, especially since he was so helpful towards Loki. Loki looked back at Daniel who was still holding the green sleeve of his shirt before asking, "So you wish to celebrate me, and not the fact that I'm only one year closer to death?"

Daniel smiled widely in success, "I'm going to throw you the best birthday party ever, Loki! You've been alive for... Uh... how many years?"

"1070 years."

The answer was short, simple, and shocking to Daniel, and Loki said it with no problem at all. Daniel shrugged off the shock from his Asgardian age and continued, "You've been alive for 1070 years and you deserve a celebratory party for all your hard work! You've done so many great things since I met you and you deserve the best party ever! We're going to get a big cake with- well... not 1070 candles..." He laughed lightly. "Stay here and wait for me! I'm going get a cake at the cake shop and then we'll have a party!"

As Daniel shot out of the room, Loki couldn't help but smile a bit. Daniel was so full of life and it really rubbed off on Loki's soul. He usually felt bitter and lonely, but with Daniel, he felt... happy and alive. Perhaps Daniel was right. Perhaps he simply needed a day to celebrate himself and focus on his accomplishments instead of all of the negative things he usually broods about. His mother would be very proud...
