Chapter 30 - Rise of Blizzard Part 2

Zayne put his arm in front of Ver as Damien roared as loud as he could, overpowering the storm's noise by a couple hundred decibels. Damien had four large scaled legs covered in ice, each coming to an end with five long clawed points. His body was elongated and thin, with massive spikes of ice jutting from his back and going up his neck and down his tail. His tail made up a good ten feet of his body, the whole thing covered all over with spikes of ice for impaling. His head was elongated as well with massive spikes all over the top of his head, ears, and his chin. His eyes were surrounded in an icy layer, and his massive twenty foot long wings were made entirely of ice. The cold weather and imposing presence made Damien puff up and get bigger, stronger, and more startling. The comparison of Damien's full dragon form to Zayne's half dragon form was drastically different.

"You see Zayne, had you used that against anyone else it might have worked. But with me it won't, especially after all of the training I've done to make sure I don't get beaten by attacks like that!" Damien growled as he swiped his tail across the floor, sending a massive gust of wind and ice into both Zayne and Ver.

They both flew backwards and immediately rolled away from massive spikes that came from Damien's tail. Damien growled after the missed attack and swung again at Ver, who ducked beneath the attack and tried to run. Massive ice walls corraled Ver back to Damien and trapped her in a corner. Just as Damien lifted his tail to attack, Zayne jumped in and tackled Damien from the side. Despite being larger Damien was still knocked off balance from the impact of Zayne's entire body. Damien quickly shook Zayne off of him and sent a wave of ice to delay him from attacking again. Ver sent multiple sheets of ice with her wind to try and stop Damien, but instead of delaying him it simply provided him with more protection from future attacks. The ice molded and shifted and turned into armor that covered Damien's shoulders on contact.

Zayne ran back up and sent a leg into Damien's neck. The impact was weak enough that it didn't do any significant damage, but it was strong enough to knock the air out of Damien to stop his advance. With the spare time they had Zayne and Ver started running. Damien recovered quickly and took off after the two running targets. He was larger and faster than both of them, allowing him to catch up faster than they could run away. Ver hadn't noticed the advancing enemy, but Zayne did. His right arm flopped around weakly as he forced himself to try and run faster. He was losing steam faster than he'd hoped, and he worried that he was running out of time on Infernal Overdrive. If both of those things ran out he wouldn't be able to stop Damien, or even protect Ver. He had to do something. He needed to delay Damien so Ver could get out and regroup with anyone else she was bringing.

"Keep going!" Zayne shouted as he stopped running.

Damien took advantage of Zayne's halt and sent a massive gust of wind and ice forward towards Ver, who was now exposed. Just before they hit her in the back Zayne jumped in front of her and launched a fire cone to reject the attack. Damien was on top of Zayne now, while Ver still kept running as fast and as hard as she could. The frigid and overpowering weather was starting to affect Zayne, but he ignored it as best he could and faced the towering figure before him. Damien forced two massive shields of ice and slammed them into the ground, then started running towards Zayne once more like a bulldozer. He was going to try and run over Zayne and get to Ver, no matter what he had to do now. Zayne realized that he had to do whatever it took to win now too. He had to forget that this was Damien and realize that this was a villain at work. He had to put everything he had into this.

With great strain, screaming pain, and difficult struggling Zayne pulled back his right arm once more and recharged the Dragon's Heart. With the little energy he had left he threw the fist forward and clashed with Damien's massive ice shield. Zayne was hit with so much force that he slid back several meters before finally digging his feet into the ground and stopping them both from moving. Ver heard the deafening sounds from behind her and finally turned around, realizing what was happening. Damien struggled to push forward with his shields while Zayne struggled to ensure that his arm didn't give out under all this force. His body was being racked and destroyed by this fight. But he couldn't give up. Not now. Not yet. Not with so much to lose.
