Chapter 29 - Rise of Blizzard Part 1

They'd driven through the darkest of storms and the thickest of snowfall to get to their house. When they reached their driveway they both threw themselves from the car and ran inside, both trying to avoid the weather and figure out what was happening. Ver ran in first, but stopped right at the doorway when she opened the door. Keith had to push past her to get out of the weather and slam the door behind them. But even he paused for a moment in shock when he saw what waited for them inside. Dozens of MRaCD military units and special ops Mystic were all inside, but they weren't waiting for them. They were frozen solid in massive blocks of ice, each and every single one of them stuck eternally in the frozen prisons. Keith immediately set to work on freeing them, chipping away at the ice with as much strength as he could. Ver slowly came around, but she was still confused and worried as to how this happened.

With each hit Keith felt weaker and weaker, this ice was so thick and strong. Not to mention it felt like it was below zero temperatures in here, and the ice was so cold it felt like it would give Keith frostbite just from the touch. Despite the pain Keith still kept chipping and breaking away as much as he could. The ice would crack in some spots, but it wouldn't fully break. It was like this ice was impenetrable. They couldn't break the people free. Not with brute force.

"Get some boiling water! We'll melt it away!" Keith commanded as Ver jumped up and ran to the kitchen.

Ver grabbed pots and pans, cups and bowls and turned on the faucet. As soon as the water came in contact with the outside air it froze over, clogging the faucet instantly. Ver shattered the ice and repeated the process until the water got warmer. Eventually she was able to fill up one cup with warm water, but by the time she'd gotten it to the first frozen victim it had frozen over as well. It was too cold to do anything to help these people. Keith continued chipping and fighting his way through the ice, but he was still trying to free the same person, and the ice wasn't making any signs of breaking any time soon. Ver looked out the double glass doors and noticed that they were now in a less intense zone of the storm. That meant that the center of it had moved, which meant that the individual who had started it had moved too. Ver came to a slow and dangerous realization.

She ran down the hall and opened Zayne's room. There was no one in there, so she ran down to Damien's room. When she opened the door she was met with another frozen MRaCD unit who was trying to run, but didn't make it. When she got past his frozen prison she saw the rest of the room. It was all frozen over. Every single item in the room was covered in solid sheets of ice, and Damien was nowhere to be seen. Now she understood what happened. She understood what happened, and she didn't like any second of it. Ver turned and ran back into the main room and explained everything to Keith.

When they left the government must have thought they were hiding Zayne here. They sent as many people as they could to apprehend Zayne and take him with them, but when they found out he wasn't here they started to leave. One of the MRaCD units must have thought Damien was Zayne, so when he went to grab him Damien retaliated. With as much anger and hate Damien had been building it must have been amplifying his powers to an extraordinary level, far beyond what Ver had ever recorded in her training records. Damien was on such a high rampage that he took out the entire MRaCD squad and took off. What he was doing now Ver had no idea, but the facts lined up with the previous storms they'd been having. Every time a storm came by Ver and Keith both noticed that Damien was in an especially foul mood. He was the cause of the storms.

Which meant that the Avalanche guy was a scapegoat. Whether he wanted to take credit for the storms or was really causing them didn't matter, what did matter was the fact that Damien was on the loose, and he was on a raging rampage now. They needed to find him and stop him before more people were injured. Ver came to another realization now. The cat was out of the bag. All of the build up over the months from Zayne with the Midnight Horror and Thunder Fang, all of it built up to this big reveal. Damien was going to single handedly reveal to the world what dark secret their reality had. No more hiding it now. Now was the time for action.
