It was the evening hours of the day now, and the school time had been most unproductive. Other than reviews on the videos and a slight chewing out from the teacher on being over time, there wasn't really any eventful things that happened all day. There were no criminal events all day, and the classes provided nothing new in terms of information or tests. Zayne even remembered falling asleep at one point. But at lunch he and Damien went home to eat with Ver and Keith and ended up making arrangements for a hang out with Aries, Austin, and Aleah. Friday of this week was the date of the get together at their place. Aries and Austin were constantly in Zayne and Damien's faces about what life was like at home, so Zayne offered that this be the perfect opportunity to show them what it was like. Aleah wasn't in their faces, but she still expressed her curiosity to Zayne and Damien when she had the chance. Three birds with one stone as Keith had put it.
Aries and Austin were informed on the date and they vowed to be there. Neither of them had any plans for the day and their parents didn't care as long as they didn't get a police call at twelve in the morning. Aleah had gotten confirmation through text that Friday was good. So with those out of the way Zayne could stop thinking about it. After school the two cousins had a race home, which resulted in Damien's victory this day. Before dinner was ready the two of them had gone out to the base and reviewed more of the video footage. They even dug up the footage from the previous break ins to try and find anything useful. Nothing new in those either. Eli tried providing any assistance he could, but even he couldn't spot anything interesting. Arachnid was continuing to chant and repeat his warning to Zayne, which had even begun to annoy Thunder Fang. But even so, Zayne could see the change in Thunder Fang slowly. He was beginning to join Arachnid in his ideals.
Now it was past dinner, the food and kitchen packed up and cleaned off. Damien and Zayne were in Damien's room playing video games while the darkness outside slowly enveloped the world around them. The only visible light seen in their room was that of the illumination of the TV. Their furious clicks, jams, and pounds on the control triggers and buttons echoed through the room coupled by their constant surprised screaming and barked out commands to watch a certain angle or go do something. To an outside source it might have mirrored chaos. To them it was a perfectly normal night of fun. It wasn't until eleven or so before Ver finally marched down the hall and commanded them to be quiet. Afterwards the two decided it was best to go to bed. Tomorrow might be another boring and slow one, or it could be a really long, tiresome one. They never knew for certain. But that evening Zayne laid in bed wondering. Pondering something.
"Go."
The voice commanded once more. The image of the dying Dragon's Heart flashed before him. He winced in pain at the thought.
"Go."
The chanting was becoming louder. More like a scream than a whisper. The image of his arm reaching up appeared. He rolled in bed to try and get his mind off of it.
"No."
Zayne perked up as he heard the word change now. The faint echo made it hard to decipher, but he knew for certain it sounded different that time. He listened.
"Go."
"No."
"Go."
The chanting slowly rose in his mind, repeating over and over, changing over and over. Zayne gripped his head and shook it as if his shakes would physically disturb the thoughts and throw them from his mind. They were screams. Faint but loud screaming commands. Multiple voices, not just one this time. How many individual voices could he count? Three? No, five? Seven? No that was too many. He couldn't focus. They were growing louder.
"NO!"
"Go."
"NO!"
The screamed out nos were much louder than the other word. They were intermingled now, not just separate commands. As if the speakers were saying them at the same time. There was nothing he could do to stop them until they finally began to decrease in volume.
