"Hey, James?" Thomas said as both boys sat on James' bed. James looked at Thomas, signalling for him to continue.
"I-I'm sorry," Thomas took in a deep breath, "I've been a huge asshole for quite some time. I- It's okay to be gay. There's nothing wrong with it. And I have no excuse for acting the way I did."
Thomas' voice broke at the end of his sentence. He rubbed at his arms a bit. James' cold expression softened slightly. He took the chance to actually look at Thomas in the face for once that week.
James noticed something; a small bruise started to form on his cheek.
"Hey, what happened here?" James asked as he slowly went to touch Thomas' cheek. Thomas slapped his hand away softly as a tear fell down his cheek. He sighed and wiped his face, standing up.
"I sh-should go..." Thomas picked up his bag and headed towards the doorway. James debated on trying to stop him from leaving. Without thinking, James grabbed Thomas' wrist.
Thomas turned around and James noticed more about his appearance.
His face looked thinner than before, there were dark circles under his eyes, and his hair was just a frizzed mess.
"Thomas...?"
"Yeah...?"
James sighed, "I know what you did was terrible and wrong... But, maybe I can forgive you." Thomas' face lit up slightly.
"Really?"
"Sit down." James patted the seat next to him and Thomas sat down. They fell into an uncomfortable silence
"Do you have a crush on anyone?" Thomas asked, breaking the silence after a few minutes. James' face heated up.
"I-I'm sorry for asking-" Thomas started, but James quickly cut him off, "I-I do, but I'd rather not tell you who it is..."
Thomas nodded and more silence followed.
Hours passed and neither of the boys accomplished anything for the project. Night was starting to approach quickly, and James was starting to get tired.
"Can I stay for tonight?" Thomas asked hesitantly. James nodded without thinking about it.
"Hey, Thomas, why is there a bruise on your cheek?" James asked when both boys changed and were ready for bed. Thomas took in a shaky breath.
The author doesn't really feel like writing the explanation right now so pretty much Thomas explains to james about his father's homophobia and abuse yeey
James' eyes widened when he heard this story. Thomas had tears streaming down his cheeks. James pulled him into a tight hug and rocked him back and forth a bit.
"I sh-shouldn't have acted like that, but I was so scared of my father I-I," Thomas let out a choked sob and buried his face in James' chest. James rubbed comforting circles on his back.
"Shhh... Let's go to bed, yeah?" he whispered into Thomas' ear, who nodded. James pulled both of them down, still holding Thomas in his arms, and turned off the lamp. He pulled the covers over both of them and listened to Thomas cry a bit more before falling asleep.
James sighed and stared at Thomas' sleeping face. His eyebrows were knitted together and it looked like his jaw was clenched. James kissed his forehead softly, which seemed to make his features soften.
James fell asleep after a few minutes, paying no attention to Thomas being in his arms and against his chest.
~
A/N: I feel like I made James a bit too forgiving I guess idk but whoops lmao
