For the next week, James and Thomas ignored each other.

They wouldn't be caught in the same room as each other aside from classrooms.

James had gotten particularly close to Alexander, John, Hercules and their group of friends. They provided him with the comfort he often needed. 

Thomas often hung out with Lafayette after school, but other than that he was alone. 

James was not planning to talk to Thomas at all any time soon.

It was the last period of the day, English Language Arts with Mr. King. James was sitting with Aaron Burr while Thomas was sitting alone.

"Now, I'm assigning you all partners for a project," Mr. King started, "this project will be due in a month exactly." 

Mt. King started to call out pairs of names. James didn't pay attention to the names until he heard his own.

"James Madison and Thomas Jefferson."

James' eyes widened as he glanced at Thomas. Thomas was staring back at him with the same expression. 

James looked away quickly as he felt tears start to fill his eyes. 

"Now, I'll give you time to brainstorm ideas with your partner." Mr. King said as he went to go sit at his desk. 

Everyone rushed over to their partners, while James dreadfully made his way towards Thomas. James hid his red, teary eyed face as he sat down next to Thomas. 

"James, I-" Thomas started but James quickly cut him off, "No, let's just plan our project." James said this with a stern glare.

The author is too lazy to come up with project ideas so imagine whatever you want.

"I think we should go to your house to work on it-"

"Why mine?" James asked, "also, who said we were going to work on the project like that?"

Thomas rolled his eyes.

"We'll need more time to work and I'm staying with Lafayette," Thomas sighed and looked away.

"Okay, fine. We'll go to my house after school."

The bell rang and Thomas quickly left. James was left with many burning questions.

Why was Thomas staying with Lafayette?

And why didn't he seem angry with James in any way?
