Mallory exhaled deeply as she walked into her old room at the Salvatore Boarding House. It had been nearly fifteen years since she had last been there. It was all Stefan's idea to come back to Mystic Falls, and of course, Mallory agreed to go with him. Of course, though, Mallory was already planning to come back, but she wouldn't admit that out loud to anyone.
Mallory dropped her bag down before walking over to her bed. She smiled as she sat down, missing how comfortable her bed used to be. Lately, she had been sticking to motels, which didn't have any beds that weren't as hard as rocks.
She opened her nightstand's top drawer and pulled out an untouched journal that she always kept in case she needed one. She took out a pen from her pen before she started to write. She glanced up at the two cabinets near the door, which held all of her journals dating back to the twelfth century.
She sighed, shaking her head slightly as she looked back down at the journal in front of her.
Dear Diary,
It has been quite some time since I have written in one of these and if I were to be honest, I would say that I've missed it. The past fifteen years since I was last in Mystic Falls have gone by dreadfully slow. I've stuck by my brother as he tried his best to enjoy a somewhat normal life in Portland. A couple months before, Stefan had come to visit Zach here at the Boarding House when he witnessed a car crash at Wickery Bridge. He was only able to save one person who was run off the bridge and was utterly shocked to find out she looked like Katherine Pierce, his former love and someone that I would consider a somewhat friend.
Ever since then, he's wanted to settle down in Mystic Falls to get to know her better. Stefan was a bit taken aback when I agreed that I would accompany him. Little did he know, I had plans of my own. Ever since the roundup in 1864 that caused the capture of my best friend, Pearl, Anna and I have been trying to make up a plan to get her out. We're close to finding a way and that is why I am in Mystic Falls. I've vowed not to get close anyone during my stay. Let us hope that that will work for me.
Mallory let out a deep sigh as she placed her pen and journal down on the nightstand before getting up, ready to head near the town border to find someone to feed on because she was beyond parched.

The following morning, Stefan and Mallory headed to Mystic Falls High for their first day of school. Well, it wasn't their first day ever, the two vampires had attended high school numerous times, especially in Mallory's case, since she was stuck in the body of a fifteen-year-old girl.
As they walked into the school and toward the front office, everyone's eyes were on them. They headed to where the secretary sat at the front desk. They made conversation with her, trying to enroll themselves in the school. Stefan would be becoming a junior while Mallory would be becoming a sophomore
"Both of your records are incomplete," The secretary explained before glancing up at the two vampires, "You're missing immunization records, and we do insist on transcripts."
"I got this," Mallory told her brother before lifting up her sunglasses, staring into the lady's eyes as she began to compel her, "Please look again, ma'am. I'm sure everything you need is there." She told her in a monotonous voice.
The lady paused before looking down at the papers they had given her, "Well, you're right. So they are." She replied after being compelled.
Once doing so, the two vampires were handed their schedules. Stefan sighed, turning to Mallory. His eyes locked on Mallory, "Remember, no feeding on the locals and no starting trouble."
"Why do you always expect the worst of me, Stefan!" Mallory complained to her older brother.
"Because I know how you are," Stefan told her before smiling at her, "Please, just don't do anything stupid or impulsive." He warned her.
Mallory gave Stefan a sarcastic smile as she snatched her schedule from Stefan's hands, "I'll try." She replied before walking off.
Mallory was walking down the hallway by herself when she bumped into someone. She looked up to see a boy about her age. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes to match it. Mallory knew for a fact that the boy was high because of how bloodshot his eyes were and the way he carried himself. She simply smiled at him, which he slightly returned.
"I haven't seen you around before," He spoke up, breaking the silence between them as they stared at each other, "You must be new."
Mallory chuckled slightly, "Yeah, I actually am new. The name's Mallory Salvatore. What's yours?"
"Jeremy Gilbert," He informed her and Mallory's eyes widened slightly before her lips curled into a smile.
"Gilbert, you say?" Mallory questioned curiously, "Any relation to the original settlers in this town?"
Jeremy smiled at her, nodding his head, "Yeah, I actually am." He replied, just before the school bell rang, meaning it was time for first period.
Mallory glanced around before turning back to Jeremy, "Well, it was nice meeting you, Jeremy. Maybe I'll see you again soon," She told him before becoming quieter, "And just so you know, you might want to put some eye drops in your eyes. They're beyond bloodshot and you wouldn't want the teachers knowing you're stoned on your first day." She informed him before walking off.

When it was time for History class, Mallory walked into Mr. Tanner's room to find that she had the class with Jeremy Gilbert. She sent him a smile, just before taking a seat in front of a random person, the seat diagonal to Jeremy.
"Okay, class," Mr. Tanner spoke up once all the students had arrived, clapping his hands together, "This year we have a lot to cover so we're going to jump right in," He paused, glancing around at everyone, "The Battle of Willow Creek took place right at the end of the war in our very own town of Mystic Falls. Can anyone tell me how many casualties resulted in this battle?" He asked before locking eyes, "Mr. Gilbert? Can you tell us about one of the town's most significant historical events?"
"No clue, Mr. Tanner," Jeremy replied, shrugging his shoulders. a few snickers we're heard around the room, causing Jeremy to smile.
Just as Mr. Tanner was about to make a snarky comment toward Jeremy, Mallory spoke up, "There were 346 casualties. Unless you're counting the local civilians who were killed." She answered and Mr. Tanner seemed a bit shocked.
"That's correct," He nodded his head in confirmation, "Miss...?"
"Salvatore," Mallory replied with a smile on her face. She was so used to having the last name Salvatore since eighteen sixty-one, she rarely ever mentioned her old one since then.
"Salvatore," Tanner repeated after her, "Any relation to the original settlers here in Mystic Falls?"
Mallory scrunched her nose as she replied, "Distant, but yes."
"Well, very good," He praised her, "Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle."
"Actually, there were twenty-seven, sir," She spoke up suddenly as flashes of that night ran through her mind, causing her to grip onto the side of the desk she was sitting at to keep her cool, "Confederate soldiers, they fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons of some sort. But tragically, they were wrong. It was a night of great loss," She paused, a smirk forming on her lips, "The founder's archives are, uh, stored in civil hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts, sir."
The whole class began to quietly laugh at Mallory insulting Mr. Tanner. She turned to glance at Jeremy, who smiled at her, an impressed look on his face.
AN: Just so you all know, the relationship between Jeremy and Mallory will be somewhat platonic until Vicky's death, but the feelings will before then. Hope you're liking it so far!
