Mallory didn't bother going to school the following day. Instead, she stayed at home, only to be annoyed by Damon the whole time. After taking a shower and getting dressed, Mallory walked into her room to find Damon sitting on her bed, reading one of her journals, "'September seventh, eighteen sixty-four," He read aloud to her, "George Lockwood and I have been spending quite some time together. Nearly every night, we meet up with each other while the rest of the town is asleep. Today, he told me that he is falling in love with me. Guiseppe and Benjamin have come to an agreement that on my seventeeth birthday, George and I will be wed. I hate to admit it, but I have found that I, too, am falling in love. Love is a vampire's greatest weakness, someone once told me, and I refuse to be weak. I try my hardest not to feel the way I do, but I can't help myself. It risks the exposure of the rest of the vampires in Mystic Falls, most of which I turned myself. After his confession, I was utterly shocked when I came clean to George, only to find that he also had a secret of his own and swore me to secrecy. Now, we are as happy as ever. Let's hope it stays that way."
Mallory gave Damon an angry look as she vamp sped over to him to take the journal from him. She knew if he got to the next page, Damon would find out the secret.
Damon vamp sped to the other side of the room before she could get to him, "October eight, eighteen sixty-four. I have not written in this journal in over a month. A lot has occurred during that time. A vampire roundup occurred and all of my friends were captured, including Pearl, my dearest friend. I convinced Emily Bennett to place a spell on my people, which led to them being protected in a tomb underneath the church. I've vowed to myself and Anna that I will find a way to open it and free not just Pearl, but everyone. And since it was Johnathan Gilbert who had captured Pearl, I have promised myself in honor of her that it will be the blood of a Gilbert that will revive my dearest friend."
Mallory had a guilty look on her face as Damon stared at her in disbelief, "You knew that there was a tomb?" He asked quietly, "And you didn't tell Stefan?"
"He can't know my plans, Damon. And I swear to God, if you tell him--" She began to tell him, but Damon cut her off.
"How do you feel about making a deal with the Devil?" Damon asked with a smirk on his face.
Mallory scoffed, snatching the journal from his hands, "I work alone." She replied, "Plus, you want Katherine out. I want everyone, but her."
"What is your problem with Katherine, Mal!" Damon complained, "You're the one who convinced her to stay at the Salvatores in the first place. She told me."
"Technically, she invited herself," Mallory argued, thinking back to the year of 1864.
Mystic Falls, 1864
Katherine was sitting in a horse-drawn carriage alongside Emily and Mallory in the woods, looking out at the scenery, "How much further until we reach this Lockwood plantation?" Katherine asked the two supernatural females impatiently.
"Won't be long now," Emily informed her in a calm tone, "We've just entered the town of Mystic Falls."
"Good," Katherine replied as she let out a sigh.
"So impatient," Mallory commented, shaking her head in disapproval, "You are a vampire, Katerina, you have all the time in the world to wait."
Katherine shifted uncomfortably at what Mallory had called her, causing the elder vampire to smirk in satisfaction. Mallory was always calling Katherine that, just to make her feel queasy and nervous.
Their buggy soon came across some townspeople that were at work. Katherine observed them keenly as the carriage came to a stop, "What is it now?" Katherine asked, annoyance laced in her tone of voice.
"It looks like a gentleman is having problems with his carriage," Emily informed Katherine, who was getting more impatient by the second.
Katherine rolled her eyes in annoyance, fanning herself "At this rate, we won't arrive until sundown. What does it matter if..." The female vampire trailed off as her eyes fell on a young male, the same one whose carriage was broken.
"Who is that?" Katherine questioned, clearly intrigued, "He's so handsome. What do you say, Emily? Think that gentleman's family take in a poor orphan girl from Atlanta?"
Mallory began to laugh at her question, causing both Emily and Katherine to turn to her with a confused look on their faces, "What's so funny?" Katherine asked the girl.
"That's Stefan, my adopted brother," Mallory informed her before watching Katherine's lips curled into a small smile.
"Well, Mallory, I guess I'm going to be your new housemate now," Katherine told her and Mallory groaned, leaning her head back.
"Somebody kill me now," She said to herself, causing Emily to start laughing.
Present, Mystic Falls, 2009
After school, Stefan entered his bedroom to find both Damon and Mallory there. Mallory was reading a book as she sat on the bed while Damon sat at Stefan's desk, reading his diary, just as he did to Mallory earlier that day, "How were tryouts? Did you make the team?" Damon asked his younger brother as he entered the room, "Very Emerson, the way you reveal your soul with so many...adjectives."
Stefan used his vampire speed to rush over to Damon before he ripped the diary out of his hands, "What are you doing here?" He asked his older brother before glancing at Mallory, "I get her being here since she has this thing about reading in my room for some odd reason, but you, I have no clue what you're doing here. So why don't you tell me?"
"I've come to apologize," He informed him and Mallory couldn't help but roll her eyes, "I've been doing some thinking, some soul searching, and...I want the three of us to start over. We need to put the past behind us. You're my little brother, Mallory's my baby sister, and if you two want to live a normal, happy human life, then I want that for you guys. Maybe I can do it, too. That I can learn to be a non-living living person. Maybe there's hope for the three of us."
"You are so full of shit," Mallory commented as she tried her hardest not laugh. Damon, too, tried to keep a straight face but deemed unsuccessful as he began to laugh.
Damon continued to laugh as he walked past Stefan, slapping him on the back.
"You know, it doesn't have to be this way, Damon." Stefan reminded him as he turned to him.
"Of course, it doesn't. I saw Elena today, BTW. That means 'by the way.'" He informed him, "She was at cheerleading practice. She looked so perky in her little short shorts. Just..." Damon smirked when he noticed how Stefan looked as though he was about to attack him, "Simmer down, I didn't even go near her. I've got my own cheerleader now. Ooh, that reminds me...I gotta run. I have a date. Sweaty palms. Wish me luck."
Mallory scoffed as she watched Damon leave. She then turned to Stefan, who gave her a questioning look, "What?" She asked him confused.
Stefan seemed hesitant on asking Mallory whatever he was about to and decided to ask something else, "Get dressed. We're going over to Elena's to have dinner with her and Bonnie. They invited you, too."
"Do I even get a say?" Mallory complained and Stefan smiled, shaking her head, "Okay, then...I'll be ready in ten."
