Hey everyone! Sorry if the plot seems like it's starting off slow - I don't want the story and/or our main characters relationship to be rushed. Bare with me, the story starts to pick up VERY soon! :)
Enjoy the next chapter - It's all Jaxon's P.O.V!
--------------
Penelope slipped out of my room just as Esther called me downstairs through the intercom. I went into my bathroom, washed my hands, sprayed some cologne, then made my way downstairs. Penelope was at the bottom of the stairs with a duster. I tried to ignore her, but she brushed her hand on my arm as I walked past. The girl wasn't nearly as discreet as her sister when it came to our hookups.
It took me forever to find Esther due to the plethora of rooms in the house. I found her in the kitchen, grumbling to herself, "I swear I do EVERYTHING around here. I have one job, cooking is NOT my job."
I placed my hand on her shoulder and she jumped. "Hun you scared me" she gasped "I'm glad you're here though, we have some things to discuss."
I lifted myself on the counter to sit and grabbed an apple from the fruit basket. She went on to explain how we were extremely understaffed, and how stressed she was from having to do all the housework by herself.
"So we're down a few maids, what's the deal?" I asked, wolfing down the banana. She glared at me, causing me to almost choke on the fruit. The woman had a glare like no other. She was one of the few people who frightened me; the others being my dad, my boss, and Freddy Krueger.
"Mr. Marvel" she huffed "Do you need to go the eye doctor? Do you not see how enormous this house is? Penelope and I are the only maids left, we simply cannot keep up with all of the housework. You know how your parents are, they want things clean and tidy at all times" she took a minute to catch her breath, continuing on, "On top of that, I just had to fire the chef Vina. I found cocaine in a cabinet. COCAINE! Can you BELIEVE that woman?"
Oh well, good riddance. Her food sucked anyway.
"And besides Penelope and I, the only staff member left is Peter your chauffeur."
She sighed deeply, rubbing the back of her neck "Anyways" she said lightly, "Tomorrow and Friday I will be holding interviews here. I need to hire people before you parents find out how understaffed this place is"
"What does that matter? They won't be home for another month, you have time"
"Jaxon, you know they check in for updates very frequently, plus you'll be surprised how fast the month goes by. The sooner I hire more staff the better."
I hated how right she was. A month would fly by, and I was dreading the return of my parents.
Esther pulled out her phone "I have an entire checklist in my notes to get through tonight, and I just don't have time to whip anything up for dinner. Why don't you go out and get yourself some food?"
I nodded, leaning back against the cupboards. Esther grabbed my arm, trying to yank me off the counter. I smirked, knowing she couldn't make me budge. She shot me her famous death glare, so I hopped down and made my way towards the door.
"Please don't be out too late!" she called after me. I held up a thumbs up before disappearing from her view. I pulled out my phone and sent a quick text to my friend, telling her to meet up with me.
