-Ava's POV-

Friday, 9:30pm

After the football game I waited for Jaxon near the side doors of the school so I could congratulate him on the team's win. The Oceanview Orcas could not be stopped this season, hell, Jaxon couldn't be stopped. He had scored all of the touchdowns this game, not to mention he intercepted the ball twice. With his skill level I would not be surprised if he got a full ride football scholarship for college.

Unfortunately I waited for my star receiver by the wrong set of doors, for ten minutes later I noticed the football team had already left the building from the main school doors. I was about to run over to find Jaxon when I felt a huge, meaty hand grab my arm. I was spun around, suddenly face to face with Frank Herrera.

What in the world does he want? Why isn't he with the rest of the team?

"Your sister works for the L.A. Journal, right?"

Wow, this is the most I have ever heard Frank speak.

"Her name is Melissa?" Frank's clenched jaw and narrowed eyes gave him a menacing appearance. I couldn't help but tremble underneath his stone-cold glare, his eyes were trained on me like I was his prey. I'm scared, but should I be? Frank always looks pissed off, so it's impossible to tell what's going on.

"Are you going to answer me?" he growled, taking a step forward. I gulped, my heartbeat rapidly picking up.

"Yeah, and what about her?" I asked cautiously. He opened his mouth to speak, but the words that came out were nothing like I was expecting.

"I was hoping you could connect me with her. I want to inquire about an internship at the L.A. Journal."

HUH?!

"Connections mean everything these days" he continued, "so do you think you put in a good word for me?"

"I-I uh, guess so." I was flabbergasted. Had I heard him right? If that is all he wanted why did he have to be so damn menacing about the whole thing?

"Uh Frank" I started, struggling how to phrase my next sentence. "Here's the thing. The career my sister is in, well, it requires a lot of writing and... speaking. Like, a lot of speaking. I know you're a quiet guy-"

"Are you going to help me or not?" he interrupted. The guy towered above me like a skyscraper, and had the largest stature for a high school boy that I had ever seen. He was beast, and he was freaking me the hell out.

"I-I..."

"What's her email? I'll ask her myself"

"Her email?"

"Yes, what is it?"

"Frank, I don't know about-"

"What is it?" he snapped, causing me to flinch. What in the hell is with this guy??

"Feeling talkative tonight, huh Frank?"

Instant relief flooded through me when I heard Jaxon's voice behind me. I reached back, latching onto Jaxon's arm.

"Tch" Frank crossed his arms, his lips forming a snarl. There was so much tension in the air that you would need a chainsaw to cut through it. Anxiety started to bubble up inside me as instinct told me something was very wrong. I tugged Jaxon's arm, but he wouldn't look down at me. "Can we please leave?" I whispered. My heart was beating out of my chest. "Marvel!" I hissed, "please!"
