The party was in full swing by the time you arrived. You breathed deeply steeling yourself against the inevitable responsibility of socializing and faking a good time. You were supposed to meet Kookie outside. He promised to walk you in. After all, these were his work friends. The one comfort was the lack of formality. The revel was hosted by a coworker, not the company, so it was the equivalent of a rowdy house party.
You texted Kookie that you were waiting and moments later you saw him jogging out of the house. His eyes were on his phone as he typed his reply.
❤❤Kookie❤❤:
I'm outside now❤You waved from your spot on the sidewalk, having been too nervous to walk up to the porch yourself. There were unfamiliar faces vying for spots on the railings and gossiping on the homely swing. He smiled brightly at you and you returned the grin. His electric red hair stood out against his warm butterscotch skin and his black dress shirt emphasized his toned physique. He must've come straight from work. Now, however, a few of the buttons were undone-- Kookie's signature method of dressing down that look. He'd rolled the sleeves up to his elbows, a look you thought suited him. You could feel him eyeing your look as well.
It was New Year's Eve, so you'd decided to dress up. You wore a black cocktail dress that hugged your chest and flaired around your waist, landing slightly below your mid thigh. You paired it with one of Kook's midnight blue blazers -- the one with silver sparkles along the bottom of the body and sleeves. You wore sheer black tights speckled with black sparkles that surprisingly didn't itch. You wore a pair of flat rockstudded suede ankle boots that matched the blue of the jacket.
"Hey y/n." He leaned down and kisses your cheek lightly. "You look beautiful, Dimples."
You playfully straighten his collar, "Not too bad yourself, Kookie."
He takes your hand and leads you inside, helping you navigate the sea of people to find the kitchen, your favorite place at any party. Jungkook introduced you to some men you don't remember seeing before.
"Hey, this is my girlfriend, Y/n." His hand rested comfortably around your waist. "Y/n, this is Jin, Joon, and Yoongi, my bosses. The guys are around here somewhere."
You nod and smile, shaking the extended hands politely. "Nice to meet you."
You lean into Kookie, feeling secure in his warmth and safe from the pressure of good impressions. The position Jungkook held didn't require much formality and so the higher ups treated their subordinates with equal respect. Kookie had said as much when he'd first started working there. He gushed over the friendly environment and how nice the hyungs were. You smile, remembering him happy makes you happy.
9:40
Jungkook had found his friends: Tae, Jiminie, and Hobi. He'd introduced you to them before so you visited with them easily. Jimin was very sweet and considerate. Tae and Hobi were making everyone laugh. It was easy to feel comfortable around them. But...
"Kookie? I'll be right back." You promise.
"Sure Dimples, but if you get lost, I'll find you before midnight." He kissed your nose sweetly and you nod.
Making your way through the crowd and up the stairs proved a harrowing task. Jin, who was hosting, had a lot of friends. There was barely room to move and the disco lights that flashed in time with the heavy base made your head spin. By the time you reached the hallway you needed to stop for breath. You also didn't know where the bathroom was. Investigating had the risk of awkward encounters, you'd seen enough movies and read enough books to know. The air felt heavy and warm from the press of bodies downstairs and the thought of finding a window to climb out of was a tempting proposition. But, Kookie had your phone and you promised you'd be back.
Braving the possibilities, you opened various doors. One was a linen closet and another appeared to be a guest bedroom. The third turned out to be the bathroom. Praise the gods.
10:56
You only managed to make it back to the first floor. Past that, things became trickier. From the top of the stairs it was obvious Kookie wasn't in the living room anymore. His red hair couldn't be mistaken, even in the confusion. You hoped to find him in the kitchen, but no such luck. It was becoming a tedious chore to look for him. You searched the outside, checking the porch and circling around to the back door. Even though the party was in fact raging in the backyard, Kookie was not among the crowd.
11:27
By now there was a tightness in your chest. Anxiety whispered fantasies of scandal and betrayal while your rational brain struggled to stomp down the complex reasoning. You were hiding in the guest bedroom. You sprawled out on the bed and closed your eyes against the noise. The door was shut and the lights were out but early fireworks from outside easily illuminated the space. You would have dozed off had it not been for the noise. The evening was exhausting and you'd barely spent any time with Kookie.
The minutes ticked by and at about ten til midnight a buzzing hush fell over everything as people found each other and prepared for the countdown. You pushed yourself off the bed and wandered into the hall.
"Kookie!" You yelled.
Nothing.
No one came running. The house seemed to be emptying out as guests spilled onto the street. The kitchen buffet spread was desserted. ( :3) Moodily, you fill a plate with sweets, skipping the cheese and crackers and going straight for the cookies and cupcakes.
A door opened and heavy breathing met your ears as a set of arms wrapped around you from behind. A head of electric red hair rested on your shoulder, mumbling against the fabric of your blazer.
"I, couldn't find you. We all went outside and then I tried to call you, but I had your phone." He huffed. "Why would you leave it with me? I couldn't find you, I was so worried Y/n."
You set your plate down and turned to face him within the confines of his embrace.
"I looked for you too, I thought..." You trailed off sheepishly. "You may have been with someone else."
Jungkook started at that. "Y/n! Absolutely not! Dimples," His voice softened. "I love you."
"I love you too Kookie." Your heart kept beating frantically in your chest, the rush of the atmosphere finally charging you with adrenaline and excitement for a new year.
A new year with Kookie.
As the people outside shouted the countdown five things happened:
5! Kookie smiled brightly, staring deep into your eyes.
4! He put his forehead against yours.
3! Your arms hooked around his neck.
2! He whispered another "I love you."
1! His lips met yours in a tender kiss.
It was the best way to start your New Year.
Okay sooooo, super fluffy ending, sorta angsty??? (Does the doubt part count as angst?) and that is my New year's one shot!!!!! I should've done this yesterday...but....I am lazy.... and I babysat, that's my excuse. :3 I hope you like it!!! Vote and comment!!!
