Your coworkers could see that something was off. You didn't exactly tell them YOU got dumped, cuz that's not the attitude you've ever taken towards work.
"Hey Lisa, how's it going? I got dumped last night. What's on the agenda for today?"
Pfft.
Though silent about the loss of your partner, you could feel his absence keenly. He was the one who made sure you ate, slept, took care of yourself. Things you never felt the need to do for yourself. Now, without him, you were growing weaker and maybe even sick. Although, you would never admit it. No matter how much you wanted to.
Kihyun had every reason to leave you and no reason to stay. He told you that you weren't around enough, that he felt lonely in the relationship. You nodded and let him go. You helped him leave, knowing you would only hold him back.
Your coworkers could tell he was gone. Kihyun never dropped by to bring you lunch. He didn't pick you up anymore. When your birthday came and went without his arrival at lunch, the conclusion was made. The two of you were over. It was something you accepted, however bitterly.
Lisa, your angel, warned the others not to call you out on it. Jimin and Tae made it their mission to make you laugh at least once every day. Once, Seulgi made you a dinner. Jungkook worried from afar.
But how could you notice? Other things occupied your thoughts rather than the tangible attempts of your friends to help you. It was almost Valentine's Day. For a moment, you'd had begun planning a dinner with Kihyun, but only for a moment. You were reminded of just how right he was every time he called you forgetful. You were barely home enough to remember that he was gone. You hardly reacted to your slip up, just mumbled an 'oops' and went on with your life.
Valentine's Day: Jungkook's p.o.v.
"Y/n doesn't look good today." Lisa whispered, "do you think she's upset?"
Jungkook frowned, but said nothing, turning his attention to the subject of Lisa's musings. She was right, Y/n didn't look like herself. The bags under her eyes stood out like shiners against the sudden paleness of her skin. The once snug cable knit sweater hung loosely off her shoulders. And Y/n looked asleep on her feet.
Jungkook wanted to scold (SF9???) her, but knew she wouldn't bat an eye, other than to brush him off with another 'I'm fine.' He wanted his surprise to make her smile. He missed the real one, reserved for when she got really excited or really happy. The Taemin special was beautiful, but it always went away as soon as the pair went back to work. Kookie we red to make Y/n smile all day.
"Morning, Y/n." He greeted, smiling.
She nodded a greeting, a smile ghosting over her sickly countenance. He held back a frown, even Y/n's smiled seemed sick today. He decided to talk to Jin, as head of Human Resources, he would send her home...right? (Is that in their department shtuff lol wouldn't know)
"Jin, can you send Y/n home, you know she won't ask herself." He begged.
"She's sick?!" Jim was trotting out of his office within seconds, "Y/n!"
Y/n poked her head out of her office. "Yes oppa Jin?"
Kookie's mouth turned down at the term. Oppa. Disgusting. The two were talking before he could even catch up. Up close, Y/n looked even sicker. Now she seemed to be swaying on her feet, although she was obstinately refuting the implications of illness.
Disbelieving, Jin told her that he would check in her throughout the day and left her to do her work. Jungkook, on the other hand, was far from satisfied. He peeked into her office and saw her rubbing a red rose petals between her thumb and index fingers, humming distractedly with a secret smile on her lips. That made Kookie smile, he did that. Those roses were his idea. He rapped lightly on the door frame.
"Y/n?" He asked.
"Hm? Oh, yes Kookie?"
"I'm going home early, I can drop you if you decide to leave early."
She pouted, "Why does everyone think I'm sick?"
She made her way unsteadily over to the bookshelf, determined to prove a point. She stepped up onto a chair and reached for a book.
"There's absolutely nothing... wrong... withme...." Jungkook was already by her side before she could finish her slurred sentence. He pulled Y/n gently off the chair and picked up her bag and roses in his empty hand.
"Jin hyung, I'm taking her home now." Jungkook informed the older, passing his office on his way outside.
Your p.o.v.
The titles of the books swirled and blurred. You couldn't tell what was happening, but you couldn't protest when Jungkook caught you off the chair and carried you to his car. He strapped you in the passenger seat and drive you home. You could hear what was happening, but you couldn't move very well.
Jungkook was holding your hand, his lips brushed over your knuckles sweetly and your stomach fluttered unpleasantly in your chest. He pulled over and left you in the car.
"I'll be right back, I promise Y/n."
He came right back and lifted you out of your seat and carried you inside. He put you on your bed and pulled your shoes off.
"Can you get changed?" He asked.
You managed to nod. That made you believe you could. He left your room and you managed to tug on a big t shirt that landed slightly above your knees. That's as much as you felt like doing. You pulled the covers up to your chin.
Jungkook put the flowers by your bed in a vase. He slipped into the kitchen, returning with a Styrofoam cup of creamy chicken soup. ;-; He sat next to you on the bed, on top of the covers, and unbranded your hair. He ran his fingers through gently to untangle to the knots.
"Happy Valentine's Day." He whispered.
You managed a sarcastic scoff.
He laughed, "Be my Valentine?"
You twisted to look up at him. He was looking at the top of your head fondly. He was serious. You smiled.
"I'd like that, but maybe I'll be a better Valentine tomorrow, can I take a rain check?"
"That sounds like a plan."
He kissed the top of your head as you drifted off to sleep.....
