As everyone else in the neighbourhood took down their Christmas trees, ours, in the Monster Mansion, remained. It wasn't because we felt more festive than our peers, though. It had been three weeks since the incident at Mt. Ebott. Frisk was taken to the hospital, where she slipped in and out of a coma for the majority of that time. Chara and I, my parents, the monsters - our whole family - wearily prayed by her bedside for 18 consecutive days. The doctors said it could've been much longer, but we all knew how strong she was. They treated her wounds with stitches and diagnosed her with PTSD, which was only amplified by the immense amount of stress she experienced up there in the mountain, and the shock reunion on the ground moments before that.

"Wake up loser." Whispered Chara, as she annoyingly poked her fingers into my side.

I opened my eyes and watched everyone else scuffle about silently as they embellished the whole of the downstairs area with warm and cosy little ornaments. I tried to sit up before my eyes fully adjusted to no avail.

"Chara, I can't get up if your whole body is pinning me down." I moaned.

"Now I just don't see how that's my problem to solve." She smirked.

Her fun only lasted a moment before I pushed her to the side, when she lightly punched me back in retaliation. "I bet you think you're real tough, huh?" She pouted.

I stood up from my sleeping bag and peered over to Frisk, who was still sleeping soundly besides us in the middle of the room. Oh, Frisk. For someone who's barely 15, to shoulder all that anxiety, being the ambassador to a whole race of people, managing her appearance in front of everyone at school on our behalf... She should have slept in the comfort of her family more often.

Chara went off to help Toriel with the cake while I tiptoed over to Papyrus and Undyne. I took the tinsel off Papyrus' neck and spun it around the 7ft Christmas tree.

"Tinsel isn't meant to be used as a scarf, it's decoration."

"Scarves are decoration..." Papyrus mumbled.

Undyne yawned as she handed Alphys and I differing ornaments.

I smiled. "Tired?"

She nodded wearily. "But it's not the first time we've thrown a surprise party for Frisk."

I reminisced on her birthday a while back. Simpler times.

"Chara! I said not to eat the pie!" Scolded Toriel from the kitchen.

"I was taste-testing it!" She pleaded, licking her fingers all the while.

"Where's Sans?" I asked.

Papyrus pointed upwards. "Wrapping the presents."

I raised an eyebrow. "Does he know how to?"

"I offered him a home-built machine that wraps presents within the instant but he said he'd just YouTube it." Answered Alphys.

I frowned and began to tip-toe my way past a knocked out Frisk and up the stairs.

KNOCK KNOCK

No reply; I opened the door to nothing but the invasive sound of snoring.

"Ahem, SANS!" I yelled as I made an effort to ruin his sweet dreams.

"Huh, h-hey, keep it down, Frisk's sleeping y'know." He said, dazed.

"And so were you by the looks of it." I facepalmed. "You haven't wrapped a single present."

"I was... learning." He glanced down towards his tablet.

I took a look for myself. "Crinkling wrapping paper ASMR?"
