Chapter 4|'...you will not be able to sit down right for a month'|
I was currently sitting on my window bed, thinking about ....Ryder. Why did he say what he did? Is he trying to lead me on? I couldn't forget about it. I thought about his past words throughout my last period and on the way home. The triplets had football practice and Taylor was with one of his friends. Probably a girl. Sadie had cheer practice and as much as I loved her, I couldn't listen to a bunch of peppy girls hooting, "Let's go Mountain Lions!", over and over. Plus, Track was a spring sport, so I didn't have practice.
But back to Ryder. He was literally all I could think about. Have you ever had some kind of feeling towards a guy and when you're in the same room as him, all you can do is look at him? Well, that's what happened to me during Lunch. Whenever Roman or Sadie or Taylor were taking, my eyed would unconsciously drift to him. It was so annoying. I felt like I didn't even have control over my body. It didn't help that he sat right next to me, every couple of minutes, his elbow would touch mine or his thigh would brush my thigh. I was squirming the whole time, hoping that no one would see.
Unfortunately, the one person who I wish didn't see... saw. Taylor had a smirk the rest of the period. He would silently laugh to himself and stare with that look in his eyes that told me we would be talking about this when he got home. I was currently dreading that talk.
At about ten past five, the triplets entered the house. "Ryder!" They all screamed.
I huffed and slowly dragged myself down the stairs, fingers crossed behind my back, hoping that my twin wasn't with them. As usual, luck wasn't on my side because when I stopped at the bottom of the stairs, all four of my brothers were in the foyer, arms crossed.
"You told them." I shouted accusingly at Taylor.
Parker looked offended. "Why didn't you tell us?"
I threw my hands up in the air. "Because it's noth–"
"Kids!" my mother yelled from the kitchen, interrupting me. "Dinner's ready!"
For once, I was thankful for my mom's daily early dinner. "Well," I said hurriedly. "Dinner is done. Let's go eat, yeah?"
I dashed past them all and into the kitchen. Mom and Dad were already eating when I got to the dinner table. "So how were your days?" I asked, in an attempt to make conversation before my brothers could.
They both smiled. "Great." they said in unison, then turned to look at each other. Ah, young love.
The boys stomped in one by one, sitting down and getting food. "So," Mom said. "How was school?"
Mitchell stabbed his corn with a fork. "Great." he said through clenched teeth. We looked at him weirdly, but he continued. "We get home from practice to discover that our baby sister is infatuated with some wanna be bad boy who doesn't give her the time of day. You know the usual." Funny, that's how I would describe Ryder too.
Everyone's eyes widened in surprise. That little snitch just sold me out. Mitchell looked up from his plate. "What." he said plainly. Judging by my big brother's faces, he probably realized just threw me under the bus. "Ah, sh–"
"Mitchell Leonardo Holloway," my mother said sharply and rest of the Holloways–including Dad– cringed. "You finish that sentence and I swear to every god and goddess that you will not be able to sit down right for a month." Yikes.
Mitchell looked scared. And he should. Mom never backs out of her threats. It's both scary and admirable. Too bad she doesn't know that we all swear when she isn't around...
"Mom," he groaned. "I'm 18. Legally an adult. You can't keep telling me what to do."
Mom smirked, shaking her head. "I gave birth to you. Therefore, I get to tell you what to do."
"Yeah Mitchell," Vinny chimed in. "She gave birth to you."
Mom turned to Vinny. Ooh, he's in trouble. "Shut your mouth, Vincent. No one was talking to you."
Parker and I looked at each other and then burst out laughing. Vinny narrowed his eyes and went to say something when the doorbell rang.
"Oh my gosh," I chuckled, wiping my hands on a napkin and rising from my chair. "I'll get it."
"You know we are going to talk about this boy, right?" Mom hollered. I simply threw my hand behind my shoulder. I hoped that she had forgotten about that.
Since, we didn't have a peephole, I prayed that it wasn't some burglar. I unlocked it and opened the door. "Hey, what can I do–oh crap."
There standing in all his tan glory, was a very naked, smirking Ryder Mathews.
And he was holding a basket full of my favorite chocolate chip cookies.
