‘I Can’t’ –Chapter 6

Laura’s POV*

            “W-Why would you want to be this way?” I ask speechless towards what he just said. “Because Laura you may not believe me but I care for you and I want to be with you forever.” He responds. “Hmm… How cliché. Obviously you don’t want to be with me forever. You just want me to turn you and then you’ll leave. Now why on earth do you want to be a vampire?” I ask. “I’m not lying Laura. I have wanted to be with you since the first moment I saw you. I admit I was frightened when you and Vanessa were fighting at that speed but that just made me want to protect you.” He responds. “Ross please stop lying to me. I know you don’t want to be with me, its common sense you wouldn’t want to be with a vampire or become one and I’m sorry I cant turn you. I can’t just end your life. I never wanted this for my self so why would I want it for you?” I reply looking down at the floor. This guy was absolutely crazy. Sure in the beginning he liked me but after he found out that I was a vampire he just got intrigued, he probably doesn’t even think of me as a friend, just some stranger who can give you immortality. News flash, nobody would want to be this way, and I can’t believe someone found out exactly one day after we moved here. How could we be so careless and leave the front door open?

         “Laura look at me.” Ross commands. I decide to look up and meet his gaze. “I want to be with you. Before I found out what you were I wanted to be with you. But now that I know your secret I want to be with you forever. And I will prove it!” Ross states looking deep into my chocolate eyes. “How will you prove it?” I question getting lost in his eyes. And that’s when it happens. He cups my face and pulls me towards him. Our lips meet and that’s when fire works fly everywhere and sparks go all around us. A human? Wow. I never guessed I would have feelings for a human. We pull apart with our foreheads connecting. “Ross why did you do that?” I ask. “To prove that I have feelings for you and I want to be with you forever.” He responds. I read his mind. “Please like me, Please like me.” I then speak once more. “I do like you Ross but I’m sorry. I can’t turn you.” I say looking at him. “Then at least be with me for a couple of months and I will convince you.” He says looking at me. “I’m sorry Ross I can’t. I can’t let you be like this. I never chose to be this way.” I say sternly. I then pause sighing. “Ross your not going to remember what I am or the kiss... all you remember is that I came in here to talk to you about biology class.” I finish compelling him wiping some tears off my face.

        He blinks a couple times and then puts on a confused face. “Hey Laur. Why are you crying?” He says softly wiping tears off my face. “No reason.” I respond. “Are you sure?” He asks. “Yea I’m fine.” I say wiping the remainder of the tears. “Listen Ross, I g-g-gotta go.” I say stuttering as I stand up and leave the room. “Laura wait!” He calls out as I walk out the door. I start running down the steps and to the front door. “Hey Laur what’s wrong?” Vanessa calls out walking away from Riker in the living room. I chose to ignore her and ran out the door. As soon as I’m out outside of the gates I vampire speed to the nearest forest. I stop at a tree and punch it making the tree loose bark revealing the inside. Then I start to let my anger out. I vamp speed all around the forest and stop dead in my tracks collapsing to the ground due to my tears. Why the hell am I crying?! I hit the nearest tree making it loose bark once again revealing a soft inside. I then start to walk around the forest. “Laura!?” I hear a voice call out. “Over here Ness.” I say trying to clean my face up as quickly as possible. She vamp speeds till she is next to me and hugs me. Damn you hugs! As soon as she hugs me the tears start to flow out again. Great. “Shhh… Its okay Laura.” She says softly as she cradles me. “Did you hear?” I ask as she strokes my hair. “Yea” She replies sighing as I sniffle. “To think I actually believed him.” I say to her. “Laura I don’t think he was lying. I think he really cares for you.” She replied. “Please.” I stay sternly “I bet he just wanted immortality. He probably wanted to use me or something and then get out of my life.” I reply wiping my tears away. “Laura. I think your wrong on this one. I think he really cares for you.” She replies letting me go. “Huh. You really think so? So then why did he want to become a vampire and want to be with me for a couple of months so he can convince me??” I ask feeling like I won this little argument. “Laura. I’m not going to argue with you. Believe what you want to believe then but he was a good catch for you.” She replies vamp speeding out of the forest leaving me alone. I let out a sigh and fall to the floor looking up at the clouds. Pondering if his feelings for me were real or fake, or if he just wanted to become a vampire. ??? (<- The number of years she has been alive) Years and I finally found someone that cracked me and revealed my soft inside, just like that tree. I’m still confused on why he wasn’t scared of me, I mean c’mon who wouldn’t be scared of a vampire? I let out one more sigh as I continue to look at the beautiful sky. Why do mortals want immortality? Who would want to live forever? It’s not as glorious as everyone assumes. I stand up and walk out of the woods. As I walk I spot a deer. I could go for a snack right now, I sneak up on the deer and ambush it consuming its blood. I leave the deer and continue to walk out of the woods wiping the blood from the sides of my mouth. As soon as I get out of the woods I vamp speed home. I want to forget about today as quickly as possible.

         I walk inside the house and see that the Lynch’s are over watching TV in the living room. Great, just the people I wanted to see. “Oh shut up and lighten up” Vanessa’s minds says towards me. “Fine.” I reply “Hey Laura.” The Lynch’s say in unison. “Hey.” I reply avoiding eye contact. I continue walking towards the stairs until I’m stopped. Wonderful just the person I wanted to see. “Hey Laur can I talk to you?” Ross asks. “Listen Ross I’m currently not in the mood.” I reply avoiding his gaze. He then lifts my chin up until my eyes and his lock. “Please.” He says once more not breaking our connection. “I’m sorry.” I say as tears threaten to come out. When I see him all I see is someone causing me pain. I then break the contact and run upstairs. “Why the hell am I crying over some boy?” I think as I’m running into my room locking the door. “Because you love him,” Vanessa’s mind says to me. “But I don’t want to know the feeling of love” I reply using my mind, and groaning as I jump on my bed. “Did I do something?” I hear Ross ask Vanessa is a hushed tone. “Do you want to speak to her?” Vanessa asks. My eyes go wide “What the hell?! V what are you doing?!” I ask through my mind. “I’m doing you a favor.” She replies as she continues to talk to Ross. “She is upstairs in the third room to the right.” She said gesturing him to the stairs. “Thanks.” He replied walking upstairs.
