CH. 26 Don't doubt it

(Anthony POV)

I sat next to Aimee while she was on the phone with the detective. She had the call on speaker so that I could hear as well.

"So you weren't kidnapped?" I heard the detective ask.

"No," Aimee said.

"But the video Ma'am." The detective said.

"Yeah, I know the video showed what it showed, but I am fine; honestly, I mean, I'm here calling you freely. Am I not? If I were being held hostage, I wouldn't be able to call you in this way, would I have?" Aimee said with an annoyed expression.

"You could be forced to say those words." The detective said, Aimee, mimic him and let out a snort.

"I assure you, I am not being forced. I'm having a good holiday and a break from work. So call off the search." Aimee said on the phone.

I stopped listening to the conversation Aimee was having with the detective. I was still bothered about what was said earlier, and I couldn't help it.

It bothered me, it really did bother me, and I wish I didn't hear those words.

If I didn't happen to hear those words, I would have never been in the mood I am in right now.

"Yes, detective, I am quite sure I'm fine. Honestly, I put that on everything. Call off the search and stop putting me on the news. Jeez, I have clients I have to get back to when I get back to work. That's just annoying, going to have to explain to them all that it was a misunderstanding." Aimee said in a serious tone.

She looked at me and gave me a soft smile, a look of concern on her face, probably wondering if I was okay.

"Alright, Ma'am, well, if you don't mind. I would like to see you when you get back into town." The detective said.

"Okay, that's fine. I'll have Lizzie get on that for me. I'm sorry I didn't alert you all that I was fine; it's been a while since I've had a break, and I guess I let it get to me." Aimee said with sincerity heard in her tone.

"Alright, Ma'am, alright. Merry Christmas." The detective said.

"You too," Aimee said, hanging up the phone.

She let out a sigh.

"All done!" She said, smiling.

I nodded my head, not really being in the same mood she was currently in.

"Hey, look at me, don't let any of that get to you, okay. I know how I feel about you and what I feel about you is real. I don't want you to think it's not. You need to know that it's real, don't go doubting my feelings for you, Anthony." Aimee said, looking at me with a serious look.

"Come on, let's enjoy the rest of our day." She said, taking my hand and bringing it up to her lips, kissing it.

We went downstairs to join the rest of the family; Aimee held onto my hand.

She squeezed my hand, bringing my attention back to her, and stared at me with concern.

"Hey, you two," My mother said, smiling at us. Everyone was next to the Christmas tree and putting the gifts they wrapped under the tree.

Aimee's eyes widen.

"I'll be right back." She said, going up the stairs.

"Sounds like someone is going to get her gifts and put them under the tree too," Ella said.
