CHAPTER 4 - What Comes, Goes
Chase pays Isabella a visit in the Central Park Zoo and takes her out for coffee. "Tell me again why you're working in a zoo when you have millions and millions of money?" Chase asked in a joking way. "I guess you know." Isabella sighed. "Know what?" Chase asked.
Isabella didn't say anything but just gave him a look. "Okay, so I may have googled you." He said. "What do you know?" She asked. Chase laughs, "Well, for starters you are the most beautiful girl here." Chase joked. "I'm serious, Chase." Isabella said.
Then Chase laughs, "Look, I don't care about who you are or what you're worth. Just promise me that you'll always be honest with me, okay?" Chase said in a sincere tone. Isabella didn't say anything but just smiled and leaned on Chase.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." She said. "It's no big deal, I don't mind." He said. "I hope this doesn't ruin our thing." She said. "Thing? We're a thing?" He smiled. She laughs, "What I mean is that I hope the attention we're getting won't get to you." She said. "Oh, believe me, I'm used to that shit." He replied.
"So when can I see you again?" Chase asked while looking around. "You're leaving already?" She asked. "I see four cameras already on our tail." He whispered as he spots them hiding behind some bushes. Isabella smiles and kisses Chase on the cheek, "I'll text you." She said and then leaves the zoo.
As he strolls Central Park alone with his coffee in his hand, he thinks about his future with Isabella but the thought of Allie just kept creeping in his mind.
He kept on thinking about the baby and the possibility of him being the father. No matter how many times he shook it off, he is still positive in considering that the baby is his. As he walks and texts on his phone he bumps into a woman.
"Ouch! My foot!" She yelled. "I'm so sorry!" Chase said and picks up the girls bag. As he looks up he removes his sun glasses and shocked to see her.
"Sophie!" He said surprisingly. "Oh my gosh! Well if it isn't Chase Everett." She said as she kisses his cheeks. Chase immediately distanced himself from her. "How have you been?" She asked. "Oh I'm just peachy. How about you? How's Bradley? It's good you two found each other, huh?" He said sarcastically.
"Chase, c'mon cut me some slack. I know you two aren't in good terms but he's still your good friend you know." She said. "Good friend? He's such a douche; he's the reason why Allie left me and so are you. You both deserve each other, home wreckers." He said angrily and walked away.
Chase went back in his car and started to drive indefinitely, with nowhere to go and no plans in going home whatsoever. So he drove and drove until finally he went to the place where they first had a picnic.
He arrived in Brooklyn Bridge Park and sat on one of the benches. Again, deep in thought he looks at the spot where they ate their food and laughed all day talking about nonsense. He smiled and looked at the railings where they both marveled at the skyline of New York. He took in the memories of yesterday while he breathes in the cool air.
"I didn't expect to see you here." A voice from behind was heard. He turned his head and his heart beat rose. "A-Allie?" He stuttered. "Hi." She whispered. "Are you alone?" He asked. She shook her head, "May I sit beside you?" she asked. "S-sure." He said. Then they both took a seat on the bench with just a few spaces a part.
"So do you come here often?" She asked. "B-Bridge Park?" He stuttered again. "Chase, stop stuttering." Allie joked. Chase laughed, "After what happened, I don't know how to speak to you anymore." He joked as he calms down.
"I know its hard okay? I know it's been..." She got cut off. "Hard? Do you really wanna go there?" Chase interrupted. "You left me for no reason at all." Chase added ignoring the fact that Allie felt bad. "Chase, I really am sorry." She sighed. Chase just shook his head and fell silent.
"For what it's worth, you made me who I am today." She added. "I want to have a paternity test." Chase said abruptly. "Why can't you just let it go? It's not your baby." Allie raised her voice. "I don't believe you! It's impossible for it to be Drew's baby!" Chase looked at her as he raised his voice. "You're crazy! It's Drew's baby!" She yelled. "If you're so sure that it's Drew's baby just take the damn paternity test. I'll pay for everything. I just want to know if the baby is mine or not." He raised his voice at her.
"Allie, I know it's been five months. Not talking to you killed me. I literally slaved myself to work every day just to keep mind off of you. But every single detail of New York reminded me of you, no matter how hard I try to forget you, I just couldn't. I never said this to anyone but here goes; you were the one for me Allie. The one I'd marry, the one I'd have beautiful children with, and the one I'd grow old with. Then all of sudden, in a blink of an eye, you walked away from it all." He poured his heart out as he began to tear up.
"For five months I tried to forget about you, Allie. I really did. Then I see you and Drew in Central Park and that big bulging stomach. All the feelings rushed back!" He said. "I don't believe that after you left me in Fiji, you slept with Drew. I have this gut feeling that the baby's mine, Allie!" He exclaimed.
"Why do you want it to be yours so bad?!" Allie retorted. "Because I didn't use any protection in Fiji!" He confessed as he yelled. "Chase, for the nth time, it is not your baby. I slept with Drew the minute I got home from Fiji because I was in a bad place." Allie sighed.
Chase felt the hurt tone that Allie used. Allie went closer and put her hand on his cheeks; Chase sank into her hand and closed his eyes. "Chase, I wish I should've just said yes. I wished I could've just rewind time. I wished this was your baby. But look where it has gotten us? You're taking your company to places and I've finally accomplished myself by writing two cook books. I've achieved my dreams thanks to you. Chase, you gave me hope and I am forever grateful for the things that you've done." She said as she soothes Chase's cheeks.
"Allie, I just want to know who the baby's father is, okay." He replied. "It's been so hard without you, Allie." He sighed and hugs Allie abruptly. "Chase, I gotta go." She said as he hugs Chase tight and stands up. Chase stands up and holds her hand, "Stay." He begs and hugs her again. "Good bye." Allie sighs and walks away.
Chase wipes his tears and sits back down the bench. "I can't keep pining for Allie and her affection." Chase thought. All he really wanted to do was to know who the baby's father was, he refused to believe Allie's claim. If he's got a budding relationship going on with Isabella he has got to get over Allie in every way possible.
