CHAPTER 8 - The Birth Of An Angel

Chase checks out the hotel abruptly and rushes to the airport. He flies back to New York on the red eye and rushes to the hospital. "What's the matter?" He asks Carlie and hugs her.

"Dad got a heart attack last night." Carlie replied. "Where's mom?" Chase asked. "She's in with dad in the room." She replied. "I got here as soon as possible. I got so worried when you called me on the phone." He said and brushes Carlie's hair with his hand.

Then a doctor approaches them. "Are you the children of Charles Everett?" She asked. "Yes." Chase said. "Your father had a coronary artery spasm." She said. "What's that? Will he be okay?" Carlie asked.

"A coronary artery spasm is when the artery wall tightens and blood flow through the artery is restricted - potentially leading to chest pain or blood flow is cut off all together - causing a heart attack." The doctor said.

"Is that bad?" Chase asked. "With the help of some medications that we're gonna give him, everything will be okay. It comes and goes. Later today we'll have him take a test called an angiogram and then we'll be able to figure everything out by then." She assured. "Okay, thank you doc." Chase said and hugs Carlie again, then a while later; Chase greets and hugs his mom.

"Are you okay, mom?" He asks. " Yeah." She said softly. "You should go home and rest, mom. I'll watch dad today." He said. "Thank you Chase but I don't want to leave your father right now." She said. Chase would've offered to tell her that she needs some rest because she hasn't gotten any since she just flew in from Budapest the location of the new film she's producing. "Okay. I'll take Carlie home and I'll be back, okay?" He said and his mom just nodded then sat back down on the couch in the waiting room.

Carlie and Chase go to his car and they leave the hospital. "Where's Kevin?" Chase asked Carlie. "He's working and finishing his piece for New York Times." She said. "He should've been there for you." He said. "He wanted to be with me but I didn't want him to because I know that he's writing an important piece." She said. "Okay, okay. I'm sorry." Chase said and holds Carlie's hand.

They finally arrive at Carlie's building and he bids goodbye to her. As Chase drives, he found himself driving towards Drew's house where Allie was staying. He had one more thing to do that concerns Allie.

He parks his car on the driveway and rings the doorbell. "What're you doing here?" Drew asked as he opens the door. "I just want to talk to Allie." Chase said firmly and then he saw Allie behind Drew. "Allie, can I please talk to you?" He asked. "Sure." She said and Drew left. "Why are you here?" She asked as she closes the door and steps out.

"I really wanna be involved with your pregnancy. Not only is it your baby but it's mine too. If you don't want me to pay then I won't but I will agree to pay half. I really want to be a father of this child." He said. "I really want this baby to have me as a father; I want to get to know him or her. I know it didn't work out with us, but that doesn't mean we're bad parents cause we're not together." He added.

"I don't want to abandon you as you take care of our child. I don't want you to resent me for not being there for you and the baby. I know you're nine months pregnant now and..." He trails off. Allie holds Chase's arms and hugs him then looks into his eyes.

"This is why I loved you, Chase." She said softly and kisses his cheek. "I'm having my check up tomorrow, will you come?" She asked. He smiles and hugs Allie, "Thank you, Als. Yes of course I'll go with you." He said and kissed her forehead. "I can't believe it's been nine months!" He said and laughed.

"I'm so sorry I couldn't be there for you when you needed someone to take care of you." He said. "It's okay, I've got a strong unit over here." She said with a laugh. "I'm really glad this silent war has come to an end. And I'm really glad we worked it out." He said. "Is there anything else you want to tell me?" Allie said hoping for something more.
