Chapter 6: Clarke

Over the next few weeks, I work harder than I've ever worked before. Everyday I volunteer to do extra work, hunt animals, gather supplies. Of course it's exhausting, but if it means that we can live in a stable environment, I would work all day and night.

"Come on, Clarke," Octavia says. "You've been working at least twelve hours on that... Thing. What is it?"

"Cement," I say, mixing again.

"What do you need cement for?" Raven comes bounding up to us. "Secret project of yours?"

"You could say that..." I smile stupidly. "But I promise the outcome of all this will be amazing."

"Okay, then..." They walk away.

I hear shouting from the drop ship. It sounds like Finn.

I run towards the noise, leaving the cement behind me. I shove the door open to find Murphy on the ground with Finn on top of him. Murphy's nose is bloody and Finn looks infuriated.

"What the hell?!" I shout.

"Spacewalker, here, won't tell us what he's been doing," Bellamy says. "Sneaking off, hiding away -  do you know, Princess?"

"So what if I do?"

"Clarke," Finn warns me, but is immediately silenced by a punch from Murphy.

"You do?" Bellamy asks, stepping forward. "How about you share it with us?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"It's none of your business."

"But it is."

"I don't see why."

"Because I'm in charge."

"Don't tell him, Clarke," Finn croaks, stumbling to his feet.

"Come on, Princess, surely it's not that secret."

"Goodbye." I take Finn's hand and lead him out of the drop ship. "What were you thinking?" I scream.

Finn looks at me like a wounded puppy, and before I know it he's breaking down in tears. I don't really know what to do, but the least I can do is hug him.

He lays his head on my shoulder, making my hair slightly wet.

"Hey, it's okay," I say, stroking his hair. "Why are you crying?"

"I'm a monster." He sniffs. "I attacked Murphy."

"You had every right to attack him. And he punched you."

"Yeah, because I punched him."

"He deserved it."

Finn kisses my cheek. "You always find an answer for something."

"I lo -" I begin, but my vision goes black at the edges as the butt of a gun slams into the back of my head.

Hazy vision, throbbing headache - I remember the past few events. I immediately sit up and look around me, but I soon fall back down. To my left is a set of keys, and - keys! I stretch to reach them and they clatter to the ground.

"Shit," I whisper.

A door on my right rattles open and a boy appears. Judging by the clothes, he'snot a grounder, but one of the hundred.

"What were you doing?" he asks.

"Nothing," I say, trying to hide the keys with my foot.

He turns on his heel and shuts the door without locking it; I'm not planning on getting up yet, anyway.

I just want to know who that boy was.
