Chapter 13: Finn

This was never supposed to happen, I was supposed to keep this a secret from Clarke and slowly die like I should have. If only I didn't go on that space walk, if only I wasn't confined... This wouldn't have happened.

"Pass me the syringe," Clarke says. "I need to examine it and ask you some questions."

I give it to her and she looks at the small amount of liquid remaining.

"When did you get your first dose?" she asks.

"As soon as I came down here, they wanted my to live." They were going to let me die in confinement, or of course get floated when I was 18.

"So when you met me?"

"Yes."

She squeezes the last bit onto a metal dish and looks closely. She quickly sit up and looks at me. Her eyes show fear.

"This stuff has this weird drug in it, I can smell it. It causes hallucinations, nightmares. The only way to get rid of your nightmares is to let you die."

"You can't let that happen to me, Clarke - I don't want to die. I know you can find a cure, you're smart. You -"

"I won't let you die. We'll find a way to help you, there must be something in this darned forest that can heal."

"Your mom said that was the only cure."

"I've watched my mom heal people all my life, I can help you. All we need to do is contact the Ark and get my mom to talk me through this."

"Dr. Griffin, can you hear me?" Raven asks into the radio. There's a little silence before Dr. Griffin replies.

"Yes, I can. What's wrong?"

"Mom, I found that strange drug in the medicine you gave Finn, it's been giving him nightmares. He had his last dose this morning. I need to find another cure."

"Wait, what medicine?" Raven asks.

"I'll explain later," I tell her.

"What can heal in a forest?" Clarke asks desperately. "Please, mom, I can't let him die. I love him."

"But I thought Finn was with Raven?" she asks.

"Long story. But what heals that doesn't cause nightmares?"

"Very little. Due to pretty much everything being radioactive, it's unlikely that medicinal plants can still be of use. But maybe those "grounders" know a thing or two. What was his name? Lincoln?"

"Lincoln left, no one knows where he went," Raven says. "Maybe Octavia knows, though." She gets up and leaves.

The radio starts to crackle with interference.

"Mom! We're losing you!"

"Sorry, I have to go." The line goes dead.

Clarke looks at me, the colour drained from her face. "Octavia will have answers."
