I wake up in an unfamiliar surrounding. A soft duvet covers me, and a comfortable pillow is under my head. The room is dark and quiet. I lean over and feel a bedside table, I move my hand until it reaches a lamp. I turn it on and look around. The walls are painted red and the room is neatly decorated. I lean back on my elbows and sigh. I don't want Lucas to come here. The door opens slowly and Nate's head appears behind it.
"Hey," he says softly and sits on the edge of the bed. "You're awake." He smiled. "Yeah I am up. There is too much on my mind." I close my eyes, but too many images flash behind my eyelids. I open my eyes. "Well, let's talk." He suggests. I nod, "I just don't want Lucas to come. It will bring back too many memories that I have worked so hard to push down. When he returns, they will just return with him." I am on the brink of tears now.
Nate lays down next to me and looks at me. "It's okay." He grabs my hand. I look at him. "I'll protect you. Forever and always." He smiles small, and for the first time in a long time I feel safe. "Thank you."
"Nate, I heard you and Caroline in the car." I lead my eyes to the ceiling. I hear him gasp slightly. "Everything?" He asks me. I nod.
"Ava, I have to tell you something."
I let go of his hand. "Then say it Nate, there is no time for secrets." I look at him now. He sighs,"ok well, " he is cut off by the door opening to one of his brothers. He looks older than Nate, and his expression on his face the news he brings aren't good. "Someone is here for you Ava." My heart pounds against my chest with fear as his deep voice says my name.
I walk into the living room with Nate and his brother, whose name is Daniel. Nate has a total of 6 brothers, all in his pack.
Miles is standing at the door, staring outside. "Where is she?" A British voice says harshly. Lucas. I step in front of the door, making sure not to step outside. "Hello Lucas."

"Hello darling your coming with me." He smiles, then the whole pack rushes in front of me. "She isn't going anywhere," Daniel explains. Lucas laughs, "Well this is new. Who knew the werewolf hunter would ever hide behind werewolves?" Sarcasm drips in his voice.
I push the pack away and they lurk behind me. "What do you want Lucas, 2 years ago you wanted nothing to do with me." I say through gritted teeth. He stares me in the eye. "You are special, you don't know why, but you are very important to me." He tries to take a step inside, but can't step beyond the door. "How am I special?"
"Can we arrange to talk at the girl tomorrow at 3?" Lucas says nicely, which is un usual for him. Before I can say anything, someone speaks.
"With me or her?" Caroline, who was once in the kitchen, is on my right with her hand on her hip. Lucas looks taken back.
"C-caroline," he looks at her. "My love-" Caroline cuts him off. "Oh save it for your pillow, Lucas." He looks at her, love in his eyes. "Both of you. I want to meet with both of you."
"Ok we will be there," I say, but as I expected Nate cuts in. "No you won't-" I look at him. "Yes, I am." I say through gritted teeth. Nate nods. "See ya then." Caroline slams the door, and he is gone.

"Caroline, it's 2:59 and he isn't here, he is never late." I tap my fingers on the table. She looks around. "He will be here." A gust of wind blows my hair as he sits in the chair across from me; right as the clock ticks 3. Lucas smiles. "Hello girls, how are you both?" Caroline retorts him with this, "I don't know, before or after you sat down?"
"Oh come on darling, you don't have to be like that." He laughs. "The past is the past, forget it." I ball my fists in my lap," hmmm it's sorta of hard saying you helped murder my brother."
Lucas rolls his eyes. "Come on, get over it. I'm sure Caroline is over me turning her into-" He looked around the crowded grill, "- well, you know." I look over at Caroline, who looks down at her lap and doesn't respond.
Lucas is smirking as he calls the waiter over. "Why me? How am I special?" I say after we order our food and drinks. As usual, he orders scotch. He doesn't respond until the drinks arrive. "Well, Ava, see there is this thing called blood, and, well, I want yours," He smiled. He took a sip of his scotch.
"You're kidding right?" Caroline laughed. "You're crazy if you think you can get anywhere near her." Caroline eyes him carefully. Lucas waved his hands at the table. "I'm sitting at this table aren't I?" Caroline opens her mouth but Lucas continues speaking. "And your little wolf friends aren't here." He looked around the grill.
We don't speak until our food arrives, and after we eat me and Caroline decide to leave. He wont give us answers. We get up to leave as our 'wolf' friends walk in. "We're leaving." We say as the continue walking towards Lucas. Lucas remains sitting as they surround him. "Well," he drinks his 4 round of scotch, "look what the cat dragged in." He raised his eyebrows. "Why? Why her? You could have anyone else," Nate picks him up by his collars. Lucas is mad. Really mad. "Set me down, now dog." He says through gritted teeth. I walk up to Nate, and yank his shoulder back, causing him to drop Lucas. He straightens his suit, "What the hell, Nate?" I yell. "Go, leave. I can handle myself," Nate pushes past me, ignoring me completely.
"ANSWER ME!" Nate pushes Lucas against the table. A few staff members come and pull Nate off of Lucas. The manager comes over. "Take it outside boys." And they do as told.
It is dark outside, and we are standing in the park across the street. Nate,Caroline, and the pack are standing across from Lucas. I am making my way over to Caroline, as Nate advances to Lucas. Before Nate takes two steps Lucas pulls me against him, and puts me in a headlock. Nate's eyes widen as Lucas brings his wrist to his mouth and tears the flesh. He holds his wrist to my mouth and forces it against me. I struggle under his grasp as he keeps his wrist to my mouth, forcing me to swallow the blood. Nate is frozen.
Lucas removes his wrist and keeps me in a headlock. I feel the blood on my chin. Nate's fear is replaced by anger as he starts to step forward, but Lucas says something. "Take one step and I'll snap her neck." This stops Nate. The whole pack is frozen along with Caroline. "And you all know what will happen. She has vampire blood in her veins now." He raises his eyebrows. I squirm, trying to get away, but he is too strong.
"Now, leave before anything unnecessary has to happen." He goes to open his mouth, but I feel his body go limp against mine, and Caroline gasps. Lucas falls to the ground, as well as his heart. My mouth hangs open, and I make an choking noise.
I look at the man whose arm is bloody up to his elbow, and the familiar face warms me inside. "Dylan." I say, and run into his arms.
