Thanksgiving

Hey guys, sorry there haven't been any updates in a while. I finally got done with my summer program. Hopefully, you all enjoy this update and I can't wait to hear what everyone has to say.

“So you’re like her girlfriend/drug counselor now?” Nick asks skeptically. Making sure to not get in the way of a couple saying their goodbyes on the busy sidewalk, I jump in front of my friend before I can make contact. We just finished school on this fine Thursday in November. Everyone is excited for Thanksgiving which is looming in the distance.

I sigh, “I love her Nick. If I just let her continue this, there’s no telling what will happen.” He wraps a reassuring arm around my shoulder and kisses my cheek. It’s nice to know that with me helping Taylor, there’s still someone to catch me if I fall as well.

We get to our street and I pull my Burberry jacket tighter around my figure. It’s really getting cold. I’m pretty sure the forecast calls for snow soon. “You’re just so amazing Lily. She’s lucky she has you,” Nick compliments me. That statement is for damn sure true. Doesn’t the band care, doesn’t Alie care, don’t her parents care? It just puzzles me how all these people she surrounds herself with have become so desensitized to the life she lives. Then there’s me, silly old Lily thought she changed when the girlfriend title came into play. I guess bad habits really do die hard.

We finally reach our apartments but with a person sitting on the front steps. My beautiful girlfriend was sat on the grey steps with coffee in one hand and her one in the other. She must have heard us approach because her gaze soon fell on us. She tried to offer a smile but it disappeared when she didn’t receive any reciprocation. Just because she and I never broke up from what happened, doesn’t mean we are on good terms. I’ve been avoiding staying at her place more and she seems to be noticing. I’ve been getting long texts at night from her saying how she knows she fucked up and she’s really going to change. The only response I can ever offer is a “we’ll see.”

Nick removes his arm from my shoulder and heads up to his door without even a head nod in her direction. Of course, I told him what happened minus the physical abuse. “Hey,” she says. It’s hard. Even just being in her presence makes me yearn for her touch and love but also sick. She makes me sick and I don’t know if that feeling will ever go away. I’m holding on to the last shred of hope that after all of this it will be better.

Burying my face in her chest, she wraps her arms around me and sighs. Cigarettes and Chanel flood my nostrils. “How was school?” she asks as we enter my house. I can see Sylvia busy scrubbing my dad’s office in the distance. I grab us both an apple and retreat to the couch.

“It was fine. Everyone’s basically giving up since it’s Thanksgiving next week. My French teacher has resulted to showing us movies and just turning on the French subtitles,” I laugh. Taylor smiles and rests her head on my lap. Those elaborate blue eyes shine brighter than ever. “How are the cravings?” I mumble. Taylor hates talking about it but I already told her it has to be discussed.

She plays with my necklace and frowns, “Terrible. I just try to push them away and look at the bigger picture but it’s hard. I’ve been writing a lot though. I guess all these new feelings are really helping the creative juices.” I nod and bring my fingers to comb through her hair. I know it helps get rid of the anxiety. She closes her eyes and allows my soothing hands to calm her. “Alie went on vacation,” she says.

“What do you mean? I thought Alie just stays by your side all the time. I didn’t even know she had other friends,” I laugh.

She shrugs, “I don’t know. She said she had important shit to do in Boston. Whatever, she’s been a moody bitch lately anyway.” Not really caring about the she-devil, I brush the topic to the side and bring up a more important one.
