I wasn't sure of who this guy was but Nisha didn't seem to care that he was here. I did. I wanted to be alone with Nisha and get to know her in private. And of course, dealing with Otanawa.
Nisha was sitting on the lounge, still holding the baby. That unnamed guy, he was in another room. He was staying here, in Nisha's private quarters. Not anywhere else, like guest accommodation. In her area. Was I jealous? Maybe. Did I think something was going on? I don't know.
"You should go back before Fenwick starts looking for you."
"I said that I was sick."
"Oliver," Nisha chided. "If James asked you to work on your night off then it means that he is seriously short-staffed. If you've left your posting, then there's only one person up at the lookout. We've had one incident tonight, I'd rather not have another."
"What if they ask what happened?"
"Did the other person with you see what happened when he came out of the bathroom?"
"No, I'd already bundled the baby under the jacket."
"Then she doesn't exist."
I glanced at the tall figure that appeared at the doorway of the bedroom, his presence was grating against me and as much as I'd like to say that I don't know why it wouldn't be the truth.
"You're not going to hurt Otanawa, are you?"
"Wow, I can't believe you said that. No, Otanawa will be fine."
"Two am?"
Nisha smiled at me as she slowly pushed me back to the door.
"Yes Oliver, two am."
"And your friend?"
"Can babysit for a few hours."
Not sure if he was qualified but so long as Otanawa was safe then he was the man for the job.
"Hey, Nisha,"
She stopped, I was already at the door so I leaned on it just in case she tried to push me out.
"You know that it's one thirty already. I'm not going up to the lookout for half an hour."
Nisha opened her mouth to respond but someone knocking on the door stopped her. She frowned and then turned to the room where her guest was, returning without Otanawa. Quietly she closed the door and frowned at me, pressing her finger to her lips.
Opening the door, Nisha spoke to James.
"They've collected the body and confirmed she's dead. The autopsy will begin soon if you're interested but the doctor has already said that it's obvious that the wounds are the cause."
"An alpha?"
James sighed.
"Yeah, big claw marks. Some were old, the fresh ones were deep. Anyway, thought you'd want to know about the autopsy. Hey, have you seen Beaumont anywhere?"
"Uh,"
"He said he was sick but I didn't find him in the latrines."
Hearing heavy footsteps, I looked at Nisha as she awkwardly glanced at me.
"Not in his coffin. The man's a flake."
I'm a flake?
"Check the o club, he's probably drunk and passed out under a table."
