Chapter 15

We had been walking for hours before we finally got close to the camp. My feet were hurting and I was pretty sure the left bottom of my foot was made entirely of blisters that had ripped open and soaked the sole of my sandal, making me slip around in it. I didn't know why I thought wearing them was a good idea but now I was stuck with them and I hated it.

"What's the plan?" I asked as we stopped walking a hundred meters away from the camp.

"Right now, our presence is conceiled but there is a spell on the camp lifting that upon entering, that's why we need to find a way to sneak in before daylight breaches. With the sun illuminating everything, that's going to be ten times more complicated." He just murmured, scanning tents in the distance.

"And?" I asked, annoyed that I had to drag it out of him.

"And I'm trying to come up with something." He huffed before sitting down.

I sat down next to him, peeling off the shoe from my foot before grimacing at the sight. I just quietly put it back on while Thanatos started brooding over our situation while the night sky started to light up. The sun was going to rise soon and they'd clearly be able to see us, standing around in the middle of the battle field. He didn't seem too worried and just sat there, thinking while I started to grow increasingly concerned.

"Mercenaries." he just said after a while, getting up and walking parallel to the camp now.

"Could you be a little more specific." I huffed as I followed him.

"Sorry, I kind of expect people to come to the same conclusion with the same facts presented." He mumbled. "The military is solely devouted to the people they are protecting. But the mercenaries just care about money. They are the weak spot. If we can distract them, we can sneak in."

We rounded the camp and Thanatos seemed to be satisfied with the spot we were in before he took my bag from me and started emptying one can, dropping the content onto the floor. He extended his claws, making me take a step back but he didn't react to it and just started cutting it into thin slices. The sound of claws on aluminum made me cringe and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

"If it's shiny, they'll think it's valuable and come for it." He explained, handing me back my bag. "We are going to place it a few meters away from the camp and just hope someone sees it glinting. It will create a commotion which allows us to enter. We don't have to hide anymore if we are in and we are just going to pretend we are on a mission. The problem is only getting in."

"Why?" I wanted to know.

"Well, if we belonged there, we'd already be in there, wouldn't we?" He grunted before walking further towards the camp.

"Do you think they are really this stupid to fall for that." I asked more rhethorically than anything.

"I think everyone's stupid." He smirked.

"Okay..." I drawled, a little offended.

When we were only a few meters away from the camp Thanatos dropped the shards onto the ground, scattering them a little before walking as close as ten meters towards the camp where he sat down, patting the ground next to him. I stalked over there and joined him, moving bones out of my way before I sat down. I didn't neccessarily want to sit on someone's face or something.

"Can't you use magic to make it glint more appealing?" I asked after a few minutes of waiting. "So they hurry up wtih finding it."

"If you want them to be able to locate us with ease, sure." He scoffed before he fell quiet again.
