Fifteen
The shadow didn't move. It wasn't Damon. I could tell that by the silhouette. Whoever it was was shorter and not as muscular. For what I could tell, it was actually a woman.
"Who are you?" I whispered.
The shadow didn't move, though, not even an inch. My mind was reeling at the possibilities of who it could be.
Stheno? Or maybe some other monster that was sent after me?
But right as my eyes started to adjust and I could kind of make out the facial features of the person, they stepped backward and disappeared.
Yes, they were gone, but my heart was still pounding in my chest. I was so scared that tears started to burn my eyes and I reached for my phone on my nightstand. My hands were shaking as I scrolled through the numbers until I came to one who I knew would be here as fast as he could.
"Persie?" the voice on the other end answered before it even rang once. "What wrong?"
"Can you come over?" I asked, my voice shaking with tears. "I think...I think someone - or possibly something - was here. I just...I don't know. Come you come? Please?"
He didn't even answer before he hung up. That was most definitely a yes.
A few minutes later, I was prepared to hear a car drive up in front of the house and see Lee walking up to the front door. But I never heard a car. What I did hear was a quiet tap on my window and looked over to see him sitting of the roof outside. My room was on the second floor, so I was kind of freaking out about how he got up there.
"What in the heck are you doing?" I asked once I opened it. "I could have let you in through the front door like a normal person, you know."
Lee smiled slightly as he swung his legs in through the window. "I know, but this seemed more adventurous."
I rolled my eyes as he closed the window behind him. When he turned around, he immediately opened his arms and I went to him willingly.
"What happened?" he said against my hair. "You were crying when you called me."
"How did you know?" I mumbled against his shirt.
He chuckled. "I could hear the tears in your voice," he said, guiding me over so that we were sitting on the edge of my bed. "Now, tell me."
I took a deep breath, preparing for the wrath that was Lee. "I think there was someone here," I said quietly. "I woke up from a dream..." And I totally wasn't going to tell him what that dream was about. "And I thought I saw movement over in the corner by my closet. I couldn't tell who it was, but I knew it was a woman. Could it have been Stheno? Damon said that she would probably come back for me. Or maybe someone else...?"
Lee's eyes flicked to the corner of my room where I saw the shadow. His eyes narrowed and even in the dim moonlight I could see the fierceness in them.
"I knew I should have stayed close to you," he growled. "He said that something would happen."
"But nothing did happen," I said. "Whoever it was just stood there. They didn't do anything or say anything. I don't get it. If they were here to get me, wouldn't they have?"
He nodded, sighing. "Yeah, I guess," he said. "I just don't like the idea of someone that we don't know being here, especially so close."
"I know," I said.
He didn't say anything for the longest time. He was just sitting there, looking like he was mulling over everything in his head. My eyes started to droop and all I wanted to do was go back to sleep. Lee noticed and got up.
