You sit quietly on the sofa, waiting for Klaus to come back. To be honest, you're still a little in shock, so you don't really have a problem with sitting still and waiting.
Klaus reenters the room looking even more irritable than he did before.
"It would have to be now that everyone is out," he grumbles. "We should have Freya examine you, make sure you're definitely all right. Did they use any magic on you?"
"I...don't remember," you answer. "I don't think so. I think that's something I would have remembered happening."
"Well, you would be surprised what magic can do. Thankfully, you do seem to be all right physically. Are you all right?"
You don't know how to answer that, because you're still processing everything that happened today and you don't know for sure if you're really alright. You were kidnapped this morning, by people who were apparently enemies of Klaus. You don't know what exactly they were planning to do to you, since you were unconscious for a lot of the time. Klaus told you that they seemed to be using you as bait or leverage, but he found you and rescued you. According to Klaus, your kidnappers are dead and won't come after you again.
"Given that long silence," Klaus says, "I'm going to assume you're still sorting out your feelings. I'm sorry this happened to you, Y/N. I know what a day this must have been for you." He sighs. "I should probably just take you home, and we'll see how you are tomorrow."
You nod. "Okay. But why were they using me as bait for you?"
"Because you're my friend, and you're human, so they saw you as an easy target. They underestimated me, though. They didn't seem to believe that I could kill them and save you at the same time."
"But you did," you point out. "Thank you for that, by the way."
He nods. "I understand if you don't want to be friends with me anymore. After this, I couldn't blame you."
"But this wasn't your fault," you say.
"Oh, I'm sure it is somehow. I remember these people now; more lives I ruined. That always seems to be it."
"Well, you've always been nice to me. It's not your fault that some old enemy kidnapped me. You shouldn't blame yourself for that."
"Does that mean you still want to be my friend?" Klaus asks.
You shrug. "I don't know. Can I think about it tomorrow? I think I need some rest, and I have a headache now."
"Of course. You know what? I think you should stay in one of the guest rooms for tonight. I can take you home in the morning. It's probably best if you're not alone for the night, anyway."
You follow Klaus upstairs, and he opens a door for you.
"I'm very sorry for today," he says. "I hope tomorrow will be a better day for you."
"You already apologized, and I don't blame you. You're still my friend, Klaus. Let's hope tomorrow will be a better day."
He nods, and gives you a hint of a smile. "Yes, let's hope so."
