You have had feelings for Damon Salvatore pretty much since the first day you met him. You can never figure out why; he's the Salvatore brother everyone says to avoid, the dangerous one. However, you feel something for him. You've never believed he's all bad, and you know he can't be as bad as people will say.

Since you care about him as much as you do, you've tried to make friends with him and show him you're a real friend. You want him to know you'll be there for him. You know he has feelings for your friend Elena Gilbert, but she's already in love with Damon's brother Stefan. You know that must be hard on him, even knowing a little of how he must feel. You truly wish he would notice you a little more, the way he notices Elena.

There have been many times where Damon has brushed off anything you say or offer whenever you approach him. That makes you angry, because no one has been trying to be friends with him the way you have. You wonder if it's selfish or not, but you expected him to be just a little more grateful that at least someone in Mystic Falls likes him.

"Does it even make a difference to you that I'm here?" you ask him one day.

He shrugs. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Damon, you don't have many friends, do you? Not real ones. I have been trying to be a genuine friend to you since you came to Mystic Falls. How many other people have?"

"And why does it matter so much to you to be friends with me?" Damon asked. "I'll warn you I have feelings for someone else."

"Do you think I'm trying to be friends with you because I'm in love you? God, Damon, you're just full of yourself, aren't you?" You sigh. "I'm gonna go. I'll see you some other time."

You leave the Salvatore house as quickly as possible, not wanting to talk to him anymore.

What you said to him wasn't entirely true. You do have feelings for him; you might even be a little in love with him. But it doesn't seem like there's much of a point in telling him if he's already in love with someone else. It's not like his feelings for Elena would suddenly be erased because you told him how you feel.

You take the long way home, and by the time you've made into town, walking on your way home, the sun has already gone down, and there isn't much activity. The street you're walking on is quiet, too quiet. It makes you nervous. And then, out of nowhere, someone grabs you from behind. You scream, and you feel something sharp against your neck. You hear a door open, one of the houses you were walking past. Whoever had you suddenly releases you, and when you turn around, there's no one there.

You run, and as you run, you whip out your phone and call Damon. He answers and says, "Well, look who came crawling back."

"Damon, someone attacked me, and it might have been a vampire."

There's a short pause on the other end before he asks, "Where are you?"

 "Heading towards the town square."

"Then go there and stay there. I'm coming to get you."

You sit down on a bench and press your shaking hand to your neck, and you realize you're bleeding a little. You pull your arm out of one of your jacket sleeves and press the sleeve against the side of your neck. You don't know how much that will help, but it should at least wipe away some of the blood.

It doesn't take long for Damon to get there. He pulls up in a car and says, "Get in."

As you climb into the passenger sat, he says, "Tell me everything that happened."

"I was just walking home," you begin. "And I felt someone grab me from behind. I screamed pretty loudly, and I heard doors opening. It must have been one of the houses I was walking past. Anyway, whoever it was just vanished after that. I think they tried to bite." You turn your neck so he can see the marks.

"Whoever it was just grazed you," he says. "They didn't get in too deep or anything. And here I thought Stefan and I were the only vampires in town." He sighs. "I'm taking you back to the boardinghouse, and we'll take care of those cuts. You should be fine."

You nod. "Okay. Thank you, Damon."

You feel better now that you're with Damon. At least you know now that he cares enough you to come running to help you when you're in trouble.
