*Happy New Year. Forgot to mention it in the last update.*

General POV

It was way past 3 am when Kate and Neal quit working on everything. Peter and Elizabeth could careless what those two were doing at the moment. They were asleep on Neal's bed with Christopher, much to Neal's begging them to get some rest because he and Kate would figure it all out.

They worked tired less lay the whole night. They went through everything so many times they could recite it.

What they found, after bringing in Mozzie, was that Hues had a deal with the higher ups that Peter would do whatever they ask him because he would use his family against him. Hues' boss was also a major mob boss. Mozzie was watching Hues' every moved and getting more information from his contacts.

Neal stood up from his chair and offered his hand to Kate. He was slipping back into the way he was before Hues took her away from him. He was doing exactually what he use to do.

Kate accepted his outstretched hand and pulled herself up. Neal dropped her hand on went to his fridge. He got out two cans of Sprite and handed one to her and took the other one with him as he walked out on his balcony (is that what it is?). Kate followed him.

Neal walked over the the ledge and set his can on it. He leaned his head on it as well. He just needed to think and rest his eyes in the cool breeze of New York. Kate walked over to him and set her can down right beside his.

Kate didn't know if it was appropriate but she did it anyway.

She reached her hand out and put it on Neal's hunched back. She felt his muscles tense under her soft touch. It relaxed when he moved his head and saw Kate there. He offered a weak but meaningful smile to her.

He turned his head back around as he stood up. He looked up at the stars that were barely seen. It was dark above the ground but the lights below wouldn't allow the natural light come through.

"Beautiful, isn't it?"

Neal looked to her and smile. She met his eyes and responded. "It is." Neal's tiny smile grew larger as she talked.

"We did this once. We were in the pool that one time and just floated around it, looking up at the sky. We stayed there for hours and just pointed out things we saw in the stars. Orion, little dipper, big dipper, and even things we made up."

"3 months before I was caught," Neal said as he remembered her in her two piece swim suit.

Kate nodded. "Time's were simpler then. Now, you work for a fed and I helped a fed. What have we become?" Kate joked with a smile that reached her eyes.

"I was forced fed."

"And you loved every moment of it," countered Kate.

"That's true." Neal and Kate fell into light banter as the night turned day. They didn't get any sleep but they weren't complaining. It was good that they worked out a few things and are able to work better together. They also made a break though in the case.

Peter still had to wake up and answer a few questions but they would get this situated and life would go back to normal.

A new normal that was better than the old version.
