Don't Do It

Chapter 16

General POV

A week went by with Kate living in Neal's place with Christopher. Elizabeth would come over with Peter a lot to spend time with Christopher and Kate while Neal and Peter worked on Hues. Mozzie helped a lot after they explained what was happening.

Mozzie was practically begging to be in this case. To bring down a dirty fed that ruined his best friend's life, he was in. He followed the dirty fed and reported back to Neal and Peter on every Tuesday and Friday.

At the end of the day, about 7, Peter and Elizabeth would leave and go home. They had to keep up an appearance. Jones and Diana would be brought in on the whole situation later. They just caught they guy who kidnapped Neal, but that guy wasn't going to go in alive. He ate cyanide and when he was in the interrogation room, he died. They didn't get anything out of him. Peter and Neal were thankful for their lack of information.

Life went of like normal. Peter and Neal became good acting buddies. Neal would make up some excuse to get out of the office. Be it a case or a lead, Neal and Peter stuck together. They didn't trust each other to be left alone around Hues.

The day finally came when they would take down Hues. Mozzie was done with the waiting so he put out a few tips about Hues and many of his contacts that wouldn't talk to him finally came forward. They wanted him gone just as much as Mozzie did.

Peter and Neal were ready to move on with their lives. They gathered up all the evidence of who was good and who was corrupt and sat down with the only person that was higher up in the FBI. They got immunity for Mozzie and his contacts.

"Neal. As much as I want to get the corruption out of the FBI, this would mean your contract with the FBI is terminated," said Weston Harding.

"Do it," Neal answered without a moments hesitation.

"You don't understand. You will go back to prison. This contract was bad and you would go back for 4 more years."

"Get them out of the FBI and I'll go back."

"Neal. We don't want to lose you. You are an asset to the FBI," Harding argued back.

"If you don't want to lose me, get these people out and talk to the Marshalls for a new deal. I will sign right back up."

Neal really didn't want to go back to prison but if it was the only way to ensure Peter, Kate, Elizabeth, and Christopher were safe, he would go.

"I'll work on it. I'll send them to jail for treason and work to get you out. Enjoy your freedom for right now."

Neal and Peter stood up and thanked Harding. Peter didn't know what to say. He knew Neal loved being free from prison and didn't want to go back. He had Kate back, even if they aren't dating or anything. He had a family now. Christopher loves his Uncle Neal. He was his father's sidekick.

Peter honestly couldn't see Christopher growing up without Neal in his life. Neal changed a lot. He wasn't doing anything illegal anymore. The only cons he would pull was for work reasons. He was actually the one that suggested that they do it by the books.

"Neal-"

"Don't Peter. I want this solved and this is my choice. I'll get 4 more years but you get many more with your son. Don't worry about me. When I get out, the very next day, I'll be back at work."

Peter knew there was no way around it. Neal made up his mind. He was dead set on helping Peter with his family.

"Be careful, Neal. Know that you have family on the outside." Peter hugged Neal. Neal hugged him back.

"Let's go spend your last day as a free man with family. I'll call Jones and Diana and explain it to them and invite them over."

Peter and Neal walked out of the building. All the while, Peter hand is hand on Neal's neck. It was a way of comforting Neal and his own emotions. He just wanted his family together without all the heartbreak that will follow in the next few days.
