I massaged my temple and sighed in frustration.

Work hours were longer than ever, we had more complaints filing in from the sudden wave of customers that Christmas bought and on top of that, my assistant quit to go to teach in Italy.

Without her constant nagging for me to go through emails and sort out problems here and there, I was stressed out and worrying about the company intead of using that time to fix everything.

"Mr Lester, your new assistant is here now," Melissa, my receptionist told me.

I nodded while saying, "He can come in."

She stepped out of the door frame and was replaced by a tall, cute guy.

He had warm caramel coloured eyes and burgundy streaks throughout his dark brown curly hair.

He walked happily to the front of my desk with a notepad hugged tightly to his chest and a pencil behind his ear.

"Good morning, boss. My name's Daniel Howell," he said, thrusting a hand towards me which I shook gently as I grinned.

"Morning, Daniel," I replied.

"Just Dan is fine," he smiled and handed me a cup of coffee he had in his hand. "Melissa told me you liked white with a sugar."

"Thank you," I said, taking a sip and clearing my throat.

"You look tired, are you okay?" Dan asked.

I nodded my head quickly and took another sip of my coffee, focusing intently on a small potted cactus that sat on my desk.

No one had really asked if I was okay since Alec broke up with me.

"Would you like me to any paperwork, boss?" he asked, snapping me out of my trance.

"Uh, yeah..." I said, placing my coffee down and shuffling through the pile of paper on my desk before handing him a few forms, "Here."

"Thank you," he smiled and began walking out.

Just before he was out the door, I called, "Dan?"

"Hmm?" he hummed, spinning his head around.

"My name's Phil, Phil Lester," I said.

He grinned, "I know," before walking to his office that sat right next to mine.

One week later

Dan was a good assistant.

He helped as much as he could, he always brought a coffee or cup of water for me whenever I looked tired and took care of all the Christmas paperwork without a word.

I always tried to stop him from doing so much, but he insisted and said he was there to his job.

Shoppers were tired from partying both Christmas and New Year, so we had barely any work to take care of.

I had just eaten lunch and took the lift to the floor my office was on then walked to it but stopped outside Dan's office.

He was turned to face the window when I knocked and as I opened the door, he wiped his eyes quickly before turning to face me.

His eyes were red as was his face, and I heard him sniff and clear his throat.

He had bags under his eyes and he pushed some curls that had fallen into his face away before saying with a raw voice, "I'm sorry, sir. I'll get back to work."
