Fluff
2001 wordsI stared at my black stained waist, spinning around in the mirror to see it from all angles as I pulled the waistband of my boxers away to get a better look. It was a strange pattern I spent various days of my life staring at, but I could never depict.
The black stain that would one day, go any colour when it touched my soulmate's black scar.
But it showed that at some point in the future, I might come face to face with my soulmate but never notice that the stains were shimmering different colours.
I sighed and let go of the elastic and adjusted my shirt and tie.
Making sure my hair was neat, I heard the bell go and the halls flooded with teenagers as I made my way out of the staff bathrooms.
I put on my false smile and waved to kids as they did to me, saying hello as I passed them but ignoring the various flirtatious comments sent in my direction.
I opened the door of my classroom and walked to my desk, not realising a student was already in, sitting up the very back.
I took my laptop bag off and set it on my desk next to my coat as I sat.
"Good afternoon Riley," I smiled and he looked up.
I saw the noticable makeup he'd painted onto his face to cover his black mark but ignored it and concentrated on his dark green eyes and dark, wavy hair that was shaved on the sides.
"Mr Howell?" he asked.
He often came into my classroom, but he'd been coming in a lot more lately.
"Yes?" I replied as he left his books at the back desk but came up to stand in front of mine.
"H-how old are you?" he stuttered, and I saw his face was slightly red behind the horrible blending job he did.
"Twenty-seven, why?" I asked.
"Do you have soulmate scars?" he kept with the questions.
"Yes, of course," I said, "I wouldn't exactly call them scars as they are stains, though."
"Have they ever, like, gone different colours?"
I frowned and cocked my head up at him, "What's wrong?"
He gulped and looked down at the ground, biting the tip of his thumb.
"Y'know Jack Davis? Well he bullies me a lot, and, this morning, he punched me right here-" Riley pointed to his cheek, "-and when I got to the bathroom to clean up, I saw the colours fading."
Tears were in his eyes and I stood up quickly and made my way around the desk to comfort him.
As I pulled him into my chest, he mumbled, "You're the only person I could tell... you're the only person who'd listen and not think of me as a freak."
"You aren't a freak, Riley," I told him, "There's nothing to be scared of if you're gay. It might be a surprise but it is to everyone when they find out if they are. You're lucky to have found your soulmate, even if he bullies you now, you'll grow to love him, and I know you already like him."
He pulled away quickly.
"This is weird, I'm sorry," Riley said and I noticed the makeup was washing off as he wiped his cheeks.
"No, it's fine. Stop hiding your mark, it's who you are, and if you tell Jack, he'll eventually come to terms with it," I told him and he nodded.
I gave my coat to him and he rubbed the makeup off his cheek.
