Nick's POV
It has been two months since Olivia was arrested, the days were spent going back and forth to court. I had seen Miley a lot but she always seemed tired and exhausted, but at the same time I knew she wanted to get things over with, she even postponed her own tour since she had to attend every session since she was the victim.
I haven't talked to her much, everything was kept strict and things that had nothing to do with Olivia's case didn't matter.
Although I had watched her the whole time we were in the same room, she would catch my eye and smiled. I would return the smile and kindly look away a few seconds later.
I still remembered her heart beating so hard against me as I held her tight and Olivia screaming behind me. I wasn't scared, but I was terrified for her, I promised to look out for her.
I also remembered her trembling lip as she squeezed shut her eyes with Olivia's arm choking her. She was pleading to be freed, her eyes screamed as the tears leaked out.
And I saved her, I doubt it would work but it did, and I'm sure the sound of gunshot still haunts her until now. But I don't want to take credit of doing what I had to, I'm just glad it's almost over now.
I looked across the court room and found Miley adjusting herself in her seat. Her head turned slightly and caught my eye. I gave her a weak smile and she did the same, this time I didn't look away, I kept my gaze on her. I was lost in the moment, looking into her eyes from afar and she didn't seem to mind.
The crowd stood from their seats and blocked my view and my gaze snapped back to reality. I looked around confused and caught two guards escorting Olivia out of the court room. "What happened?" I asked to my Dad who was beside me. "Intermission," He replied "The juries are going to decide if Olivia's guilty or not, want to get some lunch?" He offered.
I looked over Dad's shoulder to see Miley fiddling with her bag and collecting her belongings as she stood up from her seat. "Uh, I think I'll just stay outside.." I replied and smiled. Dad shrugged and walked away "Suit yourself." He called.
I quickly stood up from my seat and paced to catch up with Miley. She was a few steps ahead of me and I could easily reached her. "Hey," I greeted between pants and Miley turned to me with her eyes slightly widened as we continued to walk. "Hi," She said breathlessly.
We stopped in front of the double wooden door that separated the hallway with the court room as the last few people scurried out and the doors creaked to a closing followed by a slam. Miley stood in front of me as she tucked her hair behind her ear as the people in the hallway slowly began to disappear until we were left alone.
"How are you?" I asked quietly as I dove my hands into my pockets casually. Miley rolled her shoulders and sighed before tilting her head to one side "I'm holding up great," She replied "Although I wished this could be over sooner."
I smiled at her and nodded since I don't know anything else to say. The silence filled the hallway making us stood in awkwardness.
"I haven't got the chance to thank you," She said quietly as my eyes lit up to hers. "Thank me?" I echoed in confusion and Miley raised her brows and smiled. "You know, for...everything." She explained and my jaw slightly dropped.
"You don't need to thank me," I replied.
"I could've gotten you killed," She reminded "And also I'm sorry I ruined your career."
I looked down to the ground disappointedly but managed to chuckle to make things less serious. News of my records and alcoholic past had spread like wildfire, If Olivia wasn't arrested so soon I could've possibly asked her to take it back, but honestly I know better than to regret it, I know what I did was to protect Miley. Although I wished I could've done greater things back when I wasn't a scandal.
