No longer am I alive

Will's p.o.v

There was still one thing I wanted to ask her, something everyone would have asked the second they saw it, except for me. I didn't ask her because she started talking about that weird darkness trying to consume her. She distracted me by pointing at Fred and Sophie, telling me how cute they looked together. After I got her back to her story about Katherine and her witch gang, I completely forgot what I wanted to ask, but now there was no way she could get away.

'How did you get that cut over your heart? For god's sake Lily, if you cut yourself, I'm going to chain your hands to the balcony to make sure you will never do it again.' She silently put her hands behind her back, out of my reach. Her serious look frightened me, would she really cut herself?

'Will Barrs, how dare you think I would cut myself? I may have been through hell, but I'm not going to end my own life by cutting myself. If I'm ever going to die, which is very unlikely, I'm going down fighting.' Her hands were no longer behind her back, no, they were making what I call "rage patterns" in the space between us. Her cheeks were a bright red and her eyes could probably kill a whole army. She had a look in her eyes that said "back off before I break your neck". So much for that romantic kissing moment we just had.

'Ok, I get it, you didn't cut yourself, but then why don't you tell me how you got the GODDAMN CUT!' I yelled the last part of my sentence. If someone had hurt her, he or she was going to die. My anger was taking over, again... I couldn't handle Lily not telling me something. My hands tried to grab her arms, but she got away faster than I expected. Her eyes held fright. Well done Will, you scared her with your outburst, way to go.

'I'm sorry Lily, I didn't mean to scare you, but please tell me how you got that cut. The faster you tell me, the faster I can leave to kill the person who did that to you.' I gave her a smile, making sure she shouldn't be afraid of me. She didn't smile back though. Her eyes were empty, they held no emotion whatsoever.

'You can't kill her, she's already dead. I don't know if you remember her, but her name was Anna and she was my best friend.' Her voice was cold and she spat out those words like they were poison. Her hands were shaking, her feelings were taking over. Suddenly, she shot forward and slapped me as hard as she could, and let me tell you, that was pretty hard. My hand touched my cheek automatically, checking if there was no blood or something like that.

'Why did you do that? How was I supposed to know that you got that cut because of Anna. How is that even possible, you didn't have it when she died. She couldn't have cut you when she was already dead, now could she?' I was rubbing my cheek, trying to get the burning feeling to disappear. For a tiny girl like her, she had a lot of strength.

'Just put two and two together, it can't be that hard!' she yelled at me. She was looking at me, expecting me to directly give her an answer, THE answer. Think Will, think. What did Lily and Anna have in common? They were best friends, Anna was Lily's protector. The protector spell, of course. The spell connected Lily and Anna. Not in a bad way, it wasn't like when Anna would get hurt that Lily would be in pain as well, luckily it wasn't like that. The connection made both of them stronger. To show others they were connected, they had a mark across their heart. The only thing I could think of was that when one of them died, the mark got removed by a cut that went across the heart.

'The mark,' I simply answered and Lily nodded. We just looked at each other for a while and no words were said at all. The silence wasn't awkward, it was just soothing, it felt like we didn't have to worry about anything for just this once. No witches, no gods, no spells, no dead friends, no nothing. Then I realised life would be boring without anything to worry about because what is life without a little adventure. I had to admit, there was a bit too much adventure in mine at the moment, but I would deal with it and move on, and one day Lily and I would live happy ever after.
