The definition of Alice in Wonderland Syndrome gets its name from the book Alice in Wonderland in which the main character (alice) experiences many hallucinations, disordered time and manipulated body part size.
The definition I had gotten from www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov states that AIWS is: a disorder characterized by distortions of visual perception, the body schema, and the experience of time.
The symptoms of Alice in Wonderland Syndrome are:
There are several symptoms of AWS, but none of them occur simultaneously. Each symptom is separate and will only occur for a five-to-20-minute period of time. Unfortunately, each of these symptoms can also be the result of a completely different issue.
Micropsia (in which objects appear smaller than normal)Teleopsia (in which objects appear further away than they actually are)Macropsia (in which objects appear larger than normal)Metamorphopsia (in which straight lines appear wavy, warped, or blank)Pelopsia (in which objects appear nearer than they actually are)
Some believe that hallucinations, time loss, and are also part of AWS; however, others argue that these symptoms are instead generated from the original condition that causes AWS.

Alice in Wonderland Syndrome can create weird hallucinations that make you look much taller than you are or vice versa. It can change the size of other objects in your life and that might strike intense fear into the individuals with this syndrome.
Thank you for reading about this lesser known syndrome, I hope you enjoyed reading about it, I know I sure did. AIWS is a rare complication that occurs mostly in children and young adults although it may show up in older people.
Until next time!
And as always,
