Gotham Avengers

Assemble

A week later, everyone who was part of the team moved to Gotham City, and went to the Avengers base there. Barbara was in her Batwoman costume, Peter was in his Spider-Man costume, Virgil was in his Static costume, Piotr was in his usual costume that he wore for X-Men missions, and Jessica was in a brand new black and red costume.

"Jessica, is that you?" asked Spider-Man as he looked at his old high school classmate. "Hey Pete," she said as she gave him a friendly hug, "yeah, I'm calling myself Power-Woman." Little Dani gave Peter a hug and said, "Hi Uncle Peter!" Spider-Man smiled and said, "Hey Dani! Look how big you've gotten! How's Luke by the way?" Jessica smiled and said, "He's doing good. Thank you for the offer." Piotr gave Peter and Jessica pats on the back and said, "It is good to see you and Danielle again, Jessica. Glad to know we are teammates." Static looked at them and said, "Hi, my name's Static. Batgirl, is that you?" Barbara looked at Static and said, "Yeah, but now I go by Batwoman. Congrats on being accepted to Gotham University by the way, Virgil." Virgil smiled, and shook hands with them all. "I hope you're not annoyed by the similarities to our costumes Batwoman," said Jessica. "It's fine Jess," said Barbara, "I hope you don't mind me calling you that. I mean, red and black is kind of our team color, as I'm beginning to notice. Blue too I guess." Then Dinah walked in, wearing her Black Canary costume.

"Hey Babs," she said as she hugged her old friend. "Dinah, glad you could make it," said Batwoman as she smiled, "you remember my old friend Peter, right? And Static?" Dinah smiled and said, "How could I forget? Static, Batman's told me so much about you." Virgil smiled, flattered. "How much?" he jokingly asked. "Only the good stuff, Hun." assured Dinah. "Dinah, these are our two other teammates, Power-Woman and Colossus," introduced Batwoman.  Dinah shook Jessica's hand and said, "Hello, nice to meet you." The minute Piotr saw Dinah, his jaw dropped. She was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. Probably more beautiful than Kitty. Then, another woman came in. It was Claire Temple.

"Hey guys," she said, "I hope I'm not late or anything." Jessica smiled and said, "Claire! Glad you could make it!" She gave her a hug. "Auntie Claire!" Dani said as she hugged Claire also. "Hey Dani! You're getting so much bigger!" Claire said, hugging her, "thanks for giving me this opportunity to work here Jess. After having to deal with The Hand secretly corrupting my workplace, I'm glad to know I can be among people I can trust."

"You part of the team?" asked Static. "Medical doctor," stated Claire, "I'll be patching you guys up if you get injured. Nice to meet you Static." She shook his hand. Once everyone was settled, Bruce Wayne walked in. "I'm glad you could all make it," said Bruce, "to those new to this city, welcome to Gotham. 10 years ago, when the Justice League of America was founded, SHIELD was so inspired by this, that there was an idea. An idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so that when we needed them, they could fight the battles that the JLA never could. And there came a day unlike any other. The Battle of New York. A day when the JLA was unavailable. A day when Earth's Mightiest Heroes found a common threat they could not fight alone. And on that day, The Avengers were born. For years, the Justice League and The Avengers have shared a mutual respect for one another. The Avengers roster has expanded to the West Coast. And now, I've made a deal with SHIELD and Tony Stark to fund an Avengers base in Gotham City. Should this roster succeed, The Avengers will expand in Metropolis and Central City." This was indeed a big deal.

"You are the Gotham Avengers," continued Bruce, "some see you as outsiders and menaces. But I see potential. You are heroes in my eyes. Batwoman, Spider-Man, Power-Woman, Static, Black Canary, and Colossus. You have proven yourselves to me. Dr. Temple, please come up front." Claire did exactly that, facing The Gotham Avengers. "Remove your masks," instructed Bruce, speaking in his Batman voice. Batwoman, Spider-Man, Power-Woman, and Static removed their masks, revealing their faces to Claire. "You must swear that you will keep everyone's secret identities safe," said Bruce. "Don't worry, your secrets are safe with me," promised Claire. "Good," said Bruce, "welcome to the team. Once an Avenger, always an Avenger."
