«Isn't it lovely, all alone? Heart made of glass, my mind of stone. Tear me to pieces, skin and bone. Hello, welcome home.»

(Five years ago)

The dynamic between Eden and Jenna would ever be a mystery for them. They didn't know each other for a long time, but somehow it worked. Why on God's name did it work so well? They trusted each other; and it might have been a mistake.

It was bound to happen, despite neither of them admitting it to themselves. Things changed, and they weren't bulletproof for that. It was just, she never expected it.

The playful smiles, the constant touches, the calls, everything, went from ten to zero in a short period of time. She would've loved to understand the change on his behavior, Jenna wanted to know why suddenly Eden Hazard was so close, but so far away from her at the same time.

They were together, they slept on the same bed, the kissed, the were almost an unofficial couple, but what once felt so close, now felt distance. Like it wasn't there. She had never dated anyone like Eden, so Jenna eventually concluded everything had something to do with Chelsea.

She was, needless to say, very wrong.

The downhill began the moment he received a text. His intentions were never changing how he behave around Jenna, because truth be told, watching her smile made him feel just as good as it made him feel guilty.

"Everything alright?" She had asked the night Eden received the text. His first reaction was to quickly block his phone, while Jenna placed a hand on his shoulder. It might have been suspicious, but apparently she didn't notice.

He placed his hand on top of hers and gave her a soft smile. "You're here, can it be better?" And she blushed. That was their dynamic, but he would be an asshole if he didn't admit he was using it for his benefit at the moment.

Something inside of him wanted to tell her right away, but the fear of losing Jenna was more powerful than his sense of honesty, so he decided to keep it for himself. He would try to find a solution somehow.

It worked for a couple of days, until his own guilt decided pushing Jenna away was the easiest way to deal with his own inner monologue. The text message was still in his phone, waiting to be answered, he didn't have the courage to say anything.

Jenna noticed the change and he was aware of it. Her long stares while he nervously bit his lip gave her away. It was his fault too. He was distracted, he didn't want to hurt her but at the same time he was doing it.

Eden Hazard wanted to be honest. He wanted to talk to her about it, but the mere thought of losing Jenna scared the crap out of him. She was one of a kind, if such thing existed, and he was so in love with her. Breaking her heart sounded like that awful plot twist in horror movies. He wanted to make her happy, and if he told her something about it, she would change her attitude towards him.

Turns out that level of protection, that one wish of never losing her, ended being the death of him.

"Eden," Jenna softly said one day as she rested on her elbows in the kitchen counter, watching him doing the dishes. "Can we talk?" She asked sounding unsure of herself. He hated that.

"What?" Eden turned to her, pretending to be confused.

Jenna stared right into his eyes. It was the equivalent of someone squeezing his heart to death. "Is there something wrong? I mean, you uh," She stopped for a couple of seconds. Eden frowned. "You've been acting different." Distant, Jenna wanted to say, the word getting stuck on her tongue.
