«Thought I found a way out, but you never go away so I guess I gotta stay now.»

His teammate checked him up and down as soon as he got into the car. Gary raised both eyebrows, his cheeky expression pretty much told him everything. Eden rolled his eyes and buckled up; he would not allow himself to be the target of Cahill's jokes outside of the locker room, much less for looking good.
"I didn't know it was your wedding day." Gary grinned. Eden gave him a glare before checking him up and down too.
He smirked. "You're wearing the same suit." Eden motioned with his hand, Gary just shrugged. "Also, very bold of you to make such joke with a man who recently went through a divorce." Boo-fucking-hoo Eden, as if that wasn't the original plan, it felt like he decided to call himself out on his own bullshit.
"I'm sorry, aren't you going to this so you can see one of your exes?" His teammate raised an eyebrow, waiting for an answer. Eden narrowed his eyes and faced the front. "Just what I thought. The divorce card is not for you, mate." He started the car and drove away from Eden's house.
The fact that he was traveling with Gary didn't have anything to do with carpooling to save the environment, Eden could've easily used his own car to go to the event but having a plan to actually get some time with Jenna was more important than having to share a car with Gary Cahill. And he was (although unintentionally) still reducing his carbon footprint. Jenna would be proud of that.
If it wasn't for selfish motivations.
"You know, I'm still quite confused. I've never seen someone so eager to see their ex again." Gary quickly glanced in his direction before concentrating back again on the road. The drive was not long anyway.
It irked him that for other people Jenna was just 'his ex'. The term sounded so insignificant for what she meant to him. Jenna became a part of him in such short time, and the fact that few people knew that about their relationship made him feel bad. She should've been more appreciated, he should've shown off the kind of woman he used to have.
Sure, back in the day she had been in a few matches, even wore his jersey, but the only person from the team who had a clear idea of what was going on was David Luiz. That's what he should've done from the beginning; come clean about their relationship with everyone around him. That could've helped with handling the situation.
However, he made that mistake, it was stuck in the past and thinking about how things could have been different was not going to change anything. If he wanted to actually change the perspective, he had to go for it now.
"She's special." He didn't want to get into details, especially for what happened because of him.
The Chelsea defender didn't question any further and just nodded, continuing the drive to the Barbican Centre. The place was not far away, so it didn't take them long to get there. Eden glanced at the huge buildings from his window. Jenna once told him she would take him to the conservatory one day to see her father, but the day never came for them.
"I booked a parking spot. If you want to wait for me at the entrance while I go parking, it's fine by me." Gary told him as he drove slowly. Eden nodded.
He waited for Gary on the main entrance, Eden supposed the people going in with their fancy clothes were also going to the performance. His teammate finally arrived a few minutes later, he motioned with his head for them to walk in as he took out the two tickets. A woman indicated they had to go to level G to get to the concert hall. Both men nodded and followed the direction she had indicated.
