«And I don't blame you dear for running like you did all these years. I would do the same, you best believe.»
---
The moment he decided to turn his head to look at the sidewalk could be either the worst of his life, or the best; probably (to him) the best was more accurate. Suddenly his heart started beating way faster than normal, and everything around him seemed to disappear; Eden could only concentrate on the girl sitting at the cafeteria next to the street.
He would recognize her anywhere, no matter if she changed her hair or whatever, Eden Hazard could never forget about Jenna Lavryn (he had tried...many times).
Suddenly, he jumped on his seat and his eyes drifted away from her thanks to the car behind him honking to him. Eden looked up and realized the light changed to green. He took his hand out and apologized with a gesture before continuing driving.
The logical part of his brain told him to forget about what he just saw at the cafeteria and continued driving to training, however, that part of him who never forgot about Jenna Lavryn and everything he felt for her pushed him to turn in the opposite of his original direction and park in the nearest place to the cafeteria he could find.
Before he decided to get out of the car, Eden took a deep breath. Normally, he wouldn't fuck with any of his ex-girlfriends, but Jenna...Jenna wasn't just his ex, she was the love of his life and even after five years, he still felt the need to tell her something, anything.
Chances were, she would throw her drink at him. He wouldn't blame her if she did it and he was willing to take the risk.
Her eyes were glued to the phone on her hands, her lips curved into a tiny smile, like she was enjoying whatever she was looking at in the screen. He stopped before opening the glass door, revaluating his entire decision.
She looked better, happier, now. The last time she was in front of him, tears were filling in her eyes, and she kept asking him things he never got the opportunity to answer. He knew what he did to her and that's why Eden hesitated about going inside.
People walking inside the coffee shop gave him weird looks as he opened space for them to go inside. He didn't want to seem like a creep, harassing her with his gaze but the more he thought about talking to her again, the more he realized maybe she deserved better than that. No matter how much he wanted to listen to her voice again.
The decision, however, slipped out of his hands as soon as she lifted her gaze and her eyes connected with his; he should've have known better, hiding behind a glass door was not exactly a smart idea.
Jenna looked just as taken aback as he imagined he looked like he saw her, though Eden could see a bit of panic. He cursed himself, that expression Jenna had on her face was one he would never pictured on her. She didn't want to see him, at all.
By God's grace or whatever, Eden decided to walk inside the coffee shop and walk in her direction. He assumed she wouldn't run, but maybe Jenna would try to do the impossible to stop him from getting closer to her; she didn't do any of that anyway. Jenna just sat in there, like waiting for him to be in front of her.
Eden knew both had been waiting for that moment for five years, obviously the reasons were very different. He never thought he'd see her again, and he assumed she didn't imagine the situation either, but at the moment, it felt like faith.
While I'm thinking this is faith, Jenna must be thinking God is punishing her, he thought. He wasn't even close to being wrong.
"Jen." He couldn't stop himself from smiling, just having her that close made his heart want to jump out of his chest.
